Angel Reese will get a chance to start a new double-double streak tonight when the Chicago Sky take on the Aces in Las Vegas. She recorded one when the Sky hosted a matchup earlier in the season. But, more importantly, the team will go for its tenth win of the year.
The defending champs are home favorites, of course. However, they have already been defeated at home four times this season. Vegas lost one game at home all of last season. So, let’s take a look at the betting odds for Sky vs. Aces, along with our preview and prediction for the game.
When these teams met in Chicago on June 27, the Sky had won two in a row at home. But they were meeting an Aces team breaking out of its funk from earlier in the month when they lost five of seven (from May 31 to June 15).
Las Vegas was a 10.5-point road favorite. It was the second time the Aces had been double-digit road favorites, the first being against the Sparks in Las Angeles (June 9). They were favored by 10.5 but lost 96-92. However, they won and covered in Chicago, 95-83.
As could be expected for two-time defending champs, the Aces have been favored in every home game so far this season. They've won eight of 12 games outright but are just 6-6 against the spread. They were double-digit favorites in seven of those games and went 4-3 ATS.

Las Vegas leads the all-time series vs. Chicago, 27-20. The Aces have dominated the series in recent years, winning nine of the last ten. Chicago has not won in Las Vegas since the 2022 season (June 21, 104-95); they have gone 2-3 ATS in the last five meetings in Vegas.
The OVER is 1-2 in the last three meetings between these two teams, 7-3 in the last ten, and 12-11 for both teams this season.
The Sky has been the Angel Reese Show for much of the season as the young rookie went on a record-setting run with 15 consecutive double-doubles. However, while she helped keep the spotlight on her team to a degree, Reese's play didn't necessarily make the team better.
Before her run began, the team had gone 3-4, averaged 79.3 ppg, and allowed 78.4 ppg. During her 15-game run, they went 6-9, averaged 79.1 ppg, and allowed 82.3 ppg.
That is not to say that Reese is a problem, of course. But it does highlight something the team is missing—a capable offense. To become one of the better teams in the league, a team needs to be able to score 80+ points on any given night. If it can't, then it better have one of the best defenses in the league (like Connecticut).
It would help if they had a dynamic scoring threat—an offensive spark plug the team could count on to score in the clutch or start a run.
Connecticut is the only team in the top six without such a player, but they make up for it by having the best defense in the league. While Chicago is playing decent defense (81 ppg allowed, sixth best), it isn't playing well enough to make up for a lackluster offense.
The defending champs appear to be back. Fans had every right to be concerned when their team fell to .500 (6-6) after losing to the New York Liberty on June 15. On the offensive end, the team was as dynamic as ever, averaging 86.8 ppg (best in the league), but it was allowing 85.7 up to that point,
In fact, from May 31 to June 15 (when they went 2-5), the Aces had the worst defense in the WNBA (88.9 ppg allowed).
But since that loss, the Aces have regained their championship form. The offense is still the best in the WNBA, averaging 91.1 ppg since then. As for the defense, it has allowed 79.3 ppg (fifth best). With the team playing markedly better on both ends of the court, they've gone 10-1.
Bet on Las Vegas Aces at FanDuel
My Pick: UNDER 169.5 (-110) at FanDuel
Vegas will not lose this game, but there is no value in betting on the moneyline, and it is hard to say if they'll cover a 14.5-point spread. The Aces have covered four of seven double-digit spreads this year, but 14.5 points is a lot to ask for.
However, we are confident the Aces' offense will have a solid day, but we don't have any faith in Chicago's, especially since Las Vegas has been playing good defense of late.
