The 2024 WNBA season continues with a trio of games, including the Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm facing off in the nightcap (10 p.m. ET on CBSSN). Seattle opened as a 6.5-point home favorite over Phoenix.
But the line has since moved to 7-points.
Phoenix finally stopped the bleeding that was their four-game losing streak with a win over the Los Angeles Sparks. A second win in a row would improve their record to .500. However, with how the Storm have played since opening the season 1-3, the Mercury face a stiff challenge.
Let's look at the betting odds for the Mercury vs. Storm and our pick for the game.
A promising 3-1 start turned sideways fast for the Mercury as the team lost four in a row. But with a win over the Sparks on Sunday, the losing streak came to an end. Phoenix is only slightly better ATS in those four games (1-3) and still has a better than .500 record ATS.
As for the total, the OVER is 4-5.
While the Mercury will look to get back on track with a win in this game, the Storm will want to keep the good times rolling, having won their last four (3-1 ATS). But are they really playing well, or is their recent success a product of an easy schedule? Of the four teams they've beaten, not one has a winning record.

There had to be a sense of relief in the Mercury locker room after beating the Sparks, 87-68, a game they took control of by outscoring them 23-7 in the second quarter. Four players scored in double-figures, led by veteran guard Dianne Taurasi with 31 points.
On the defensive end, they couldn’t slow down Dearica Hambry who shot 9-12 from the floor (3-3 from three-point range) for 23 points. The rest of the starting five scored just 27 points.
They will need a similar defensive effort to keep Seattle’s No. 4 offense in check (84.5 ppg). However, defense has not been a strength for Phoenix this season. Only the Fever have allowed more points per game than the Mercury this season.
The Phoenix defense will have its work cut out trying to slow down a Seattle team that has averaged over 90 points a game during its win streak, including two 100+ point efforts.

It has been a roller coaster ride for the Storm this season. Following a productive offseason, many had high expectations for Seattle. But the good times came to a screeching halt when the team struggled to a 1-3 start, only to rebound with four consecutive wins.
They’ve been winning with solid offense and stout defense, scoring 100+ in two and averaging 90+ points per game. In two of their last four games, Seattle has held their opponents under 70 points.
Outside of a double overtime game in which the opponent scored 102 points, no one has scored more than 88 points against them this season.
It is beginning to look like Skylar Diggins-Smith, Nneka Ogwumike, and Jewel Loyd are developing chemistry. Should that continue, the Storm’s offense could become the most dangerous unit in the WNBA. As long as the roster can stay healthy, the Storm could become the team to beat when the postseason rolls around.

There is a lot of promising talent on the Mercury roster, but it just isn’t quite ready to compete with the better teams in the league. Does that mean the Storm is one of the better teams in the WNBA? Yes, yes, it does. Seattle just needed time to get everyone on the same page and playing together.
While there is still room for growth in Seattle, the Storm will have no trouble taking care of a struggling Phoenix team.
