The 2024 WNBA season rolls on tonight with Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever going on the road to take on the Connecticut Sun. The Sun are coming off their first loss of the season, while the Fever won their third game their last time out. But, not surprisingly, the Sun is a heavy favorite in this game.
These two teams have already played twice this season, both won by the Sun. But the Fever has improved since then. The last thing Connecticut can afford to do is look past the Fever to their next game, on the road vs. the Chicago Sky.
Let’s take a look at the betting line for the game, along with our preview and prediction.
When a spread is as large as it is for this game, it’s a good time for bettors to consider how a team has performed ATS. Indiana, while 3-9 SU, the team is 5-7 ATS with a win and loss ATS vs. the Sun. While they did win their last time out (on Friday vs. the Mystics), they failed to cover since they were 3.5-point favorites and only won by two.
As for Connecticut, the Sun may have the best record in the league at 9-1 but have not been a great team against the spread (4-6; 3-2 in their last five games). The OVER is 5-5 for the Sun this season and 8-4 for the Fever.

A slower week appears to have done the Fever some good. After starting the season at a dead sprint, the Fever only played on Sunday and Friday last week. While their performance was far from perfect on Friday against a poor Mystics team on the road, they played well enough to win.
Caitlin Clark finally had what fans have been dying to see from her all season— Clark shooting daggers from behind the arc. On the night, she was 7-13 from three-point range (8-15 from the floor) for her new career high, 30 points.
Clark went 4-10 against the Sun in the season opener and 3-7 when they met again a few days later. But the Sun has been stingy from the three-point line all season. Opponents have made a league-low 28.2% against them.
Only four players, including Clark, have made four in a game against Connecticut.
Indiana’s best chance of recording an upset win comes with Clark having another solid night from the three-point line. Otherwise, if she struggles, the team will need a near-perfect game from everyone else to steal a win.

It was bound to happen, and it finally did on Saturday—the Sun lost a game. But they didn’t necessarily play a lousy game. Yes, they got dominated in the first and final periods (28-18; 25-15) and lost by seven. But all five starters scored in double figures, with a sixth doing so off the bench.
However, while sharing the ball is a solid strategic decision, the high scorer in the game had just 16 points (Dewanee Bonner, who is averaging 18.8 per game).
The Sun have a solid defense and a capable offense, but they have one glaring weakness—three-point shooting. They rank last in percentage and tenth in attempts and made shots. Against the Liberty, they were 4-16, while New York shot 9-25.
They have already shown that they can contain Clark, but that was earlier in the season, and she’s progressed since then. However, the Indiana defense has not improved; they gave up 92 and 88 earlier in the season to the Sun and have allowed a league-worst 89.8 ppg.
On the other hand, Connecticut has the No.1 defense, giving up a league-low 70.6 ppg.
Bet on Connecticut Sun at BetMGM
When Caitlin Clark and the Fever are on, they are an entertaining team to watch. But the trouble is trying to figure out when that may happen. Against a quality team like the Connecticut Sun, it shouldn’t happen, but it doesn’t mean that it is impossible.
Indiana is starting to figure a few things out, but the Sun is not a team you can afford to bring anything less than your “A” game. The Fever are more likely to give their B+ game.
Connecticut should come out firing, looking to dominate someone after losing their first game of the season. Against Indiana’s terrible defense, that is not hard to do. However, the Fever has a little fire underneath them. Not enough to warrant betting on them to pull off an upset.
But it may be worth taking the points since the spread is so large.
