Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will face the LA Sparks in Los Angeles on Thursday night at 10 p.m. ET. Despite the team's 0-5 start to the season, the Fever has been playing better and opened as road favorites against the 1-2 Los Angeles Sparks.
Can they ride this wave of improvement to their first win of the season? Or will the No. 2 pick in the draft, Cameron Brink, make a case for Rookie of the Year honors by shutting down the No. 1 pick, Clark?
The Sparks won the season series last year, going 3-0 SU and ATS. Indiana's last win against LA came at home early in the 2022 season. For the Fever's last win over the Sparks in Los Angeles, you have to go back to the 2018 season.
Let's look at the betting odds for the Fever vs. Sparks and our pick for the game. Also, check out Daily WNBA Player Props focused on the Fever vs. Sparks game.
After getting destroyed in their first two games, Caitlin Clark and the Fever have bounced back in the last two. They still lost, falling to the Sky by four on Monday and by two to the Storm on Wednesday—but they played better. They are getting closer to earning their first win of the season.
But, as the saying goes, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. No one cares how many games a team almost won.
To make matters worse for Indiana supporters, the Fever does not have a good history vs. the Sparks. LA leads the all-time series with Indiana, 33-13. Indiana's last win against Los Angeles was at home during the 2022 season.
But if Caitlin Clark and the Fever can continue to improve, fans could finally witness that elusive first win.
Here's the betting line for Friday's Fever vs. Sparks game with odds from DraftKings Sportsbook where new users can claim a No Sweat First Bet up to $1,500.
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|

Los Angeles Sparks | +2 (-105) | +120 | U 163.5 (-110) |
Close, but no cigar. Missed it by that much. It's right around the corner; just a hop, skip, and a jump away.
Journalists and bloggers everywhere will try to find as many different ways as possible to say that Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have come close to winning their first game of the season but have fallen short.
It's cliché, but it's also true. The Fever has gone from getting blown out to losing by four and two points in their last two games. They've played well enough to win both and came close to doing so, but they still lost-- hence the terrible cliches.
Clark and the team must continue trending in the right direction if they are to get their first win Friday night. She had a solid night with 21 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists, but she was only 2-8 from three-point range.
Her turnover with 2.1 seconds left kept the Fever from getting a good look at a potential game-winning shot. Instead, the Storm extended their lead to 85-83, and Indiana had to settle for a desperation heave as time ran out.
The potential is there; the team has to find a way to come together for an entire game.
Bet on Indiana Fever at DraftKings
Like Indiana, the Sparks are coming off a lackluster season in 2023 that saw them finish 17-23 and out of the playoffs. After trading away Jordin Canada and with the departure of last year's leading scorer, Nneka Ogwumike, the writing was on the wall for LA—time to rebuild.
Having two of the top five picks in the draft was undoubtedly a great way to jumpstart a rebuild. They took Cameron Brink from Stanford with the No. 2 pick and Rickea Jackson from Tennessee with the No. 4 pick.
Brink's stat line is not too impressive (six ppg, six rpg, and 2.3 apg), but it's her contribution on the defensive end of the court that will put her amid any Rookie of the Year conversations. Jackson gives the team some much-needed depth coming off the bench.
The team has struggled to find any rhythm on offense and is averaging 77.7 ppg. Only the Fever and Mystics are averaging less. Their defense is playing decent and giving up just 83 ppg. They'll Brink and the defense to ensure Clark does not get the chance to heat up.
Bet on LA Sparks at DraftKings
The key for Indiana is getting Caitlin Clark in the groove. Friday's game vs. the Sparks may be her best chance to catch fire early; the Sparks are the second-worst team in the league vs. three-point shooters. If the Sparks try to have Cameron Brink defend against Clark shooting threes, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell might be in for a big day in the paint.
If Clark struggles to get on track, the Sparks may continue to exert their dominance over the Fever. But Clark is finally getting what she needs to light up the scoreboard-- a defense that struggles against the three. She'll get her shots and make enough to lead the Fever to a win.
