The Indiana Fever will try to improve to 3-0 against the Dream when the two teams face off in Atlanta tonight. For the first time in the season series between them, the opening WNBA betting lines opened with the home team as the betting favorite.
With the regular season preparing to enter the home stretch, both teams are in desperate need of victories to help secure a spot in the postseason. Atlanta made the playoffs last season; Indiana last qualified for postseason play in 2016.
Indiana had been on fire since play picked back up following the break with wins over Phoenix and Seattle at home. But then they ran into the Minnesota Lynx at the Target Center in Minneapolis. The Fever got within three halfway through the fourth, ultimately losing 90-80.
As for Atlanta, the Dream had been on a run before facing Phoenix at home Friday night, losing a tight one, 82-80. They had won three in a row since the break with victories over Seattle, Connecticut, and Phoenix at home.
The Dream opened as a 1.5-point favorite in the game, but the line has since moved in favor of the Fever. The following odds are from FanDuel Sportsbook, where new members can claim $200 in Bonus Bets by placing a $5 wager.

While Indiana has won both matchups this season, the Dream lead the all-time series 38-33. The Fever have won the last three (four, including the preseason), but Atlanta has won six of the last ten. Both have won five of those ten against the spread.
The last three have gone OVER the listed total for the game; the OVER is 7-3 in the last ten.
13-16 SU, 16-13 ATS; OVER is 19-10
5-11 SU and 7-9 ATS on the road
Away Teams 75-99 SU; Road Dogs 25-76 SU
Indiana had a pretty light schedule coming out of the break with two home games in the first weekend, both wins (98-89 over Phoenix, Aug. 16, and 92-75 over Seattle, Aug. 18). They didn’t play again until Saturday in Minneapolis when they lost to Minnesota 90-80.
Typically, getting rest is a good thing, but when the Fever was playing so well, it may have been better to face a solid team like the Lynx without the long layoff. Then again, playing against one of the best teams in the league on the road is tough under any circumstances.
Since the break, Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark have averaged 25.3 and 25 points per game; only Napheesa Collier has averaged more (25.6 ppg). But they may find it challenging to get on track against an Atlanta defense that has been second-best in the league following the break, giving up just 74 ppg.

It has not been a good year for the Dream, but they are doing their best to fight for a spot in the playoffs. Before losing to Phoenix at home Friday night, they had won three in a row, with two wins coming against Seattle and Connecticut.
They enter tonight’s contest one game back of Chicago for the No. 8 seed in the playoffs and 2.5 behind the Fever for the No. 7 seed.
Since the break, their stingy defense (74 ppg) has been the difference maker, but the offense has also been doing its part. It’s been the worst in the league this season, averaging just 75 points per game. Since the break, they’ve averaged 79.3 points per game, good for seventh-best in that stretch.
Atlanta could get a boost on the offensive end of the court, facing an Indiana defense that’s giving up 87 points per game this season (second to last).

This contest could be surprisingly close and competitive. Will Atlanta continue to play stellar defense, like it has since the break, and contain Indiana’s offense? Or will the Fever’s offense continue to produce and lead Indiana to the team’s sixth road win of the season?
The winner will be the team whose superstar can pull through in the clutch. With how Caitlin Clark has been playing, look for her to make the clutch shot late in the game to seal the win for Indiana.
