Indiana Fever vs. Las Vegas Aces Prediction: Don't Bank on the Aces to Cover

After watching the team win three in a row at home, fans of the Indiana Fever were eager to see how the team would do on its upcoming five-game road trip. As the Fever prepare to face off with the Aces in Las Vegas tonight, they’ve gone 2-2.

However, they are playing the Aces at home, so the outlook is not promising. The Aces appear to have pulled out of their 2-5 slide that started on May 31 in Atlanta. They’ll have a four-game win streak on the line tonight against the Fever.

Let’s take a look at the betting odds for Fever vs. Aces, along with our preview and prediction for the game.

Fever vs Aces Prediction

Fever vs. Aces Betting Odds for Tuesday, July 2

This game will be the second between the Fever and Aces in Las Vegas. As could be expected, the Aces were heavy favorites in that earlier contest (May 25) at -16.5, which they covered by winning 99-80.

Las Vegas was the betting favorite in their nine home games this season. But if bettors expected the two-time defending champs to dominate at home like they did last year (19-1), they are disappointed. The Aces are just 5-4 SU and 4-5 ATS. In the games where they were double-digit favorites, they were 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS.

Here are the betting odds for tonight’s Fever vs. Aces game with odds from FanDuel Sportsbook. Head over to FanDuel and claim $150 in bonus bets when wagering $5.

Fever vs. Aces Preview

The Aces have controlled the all-time series with the Fever, 30-21. They’ve won the last 12 in a row; Indiana’s last win was in 2019, 86-71 in Indianapolis (Aug. 27). Indiana has yet to beat the Aces in Las Vegas. Their last road win was in 2016 when the franchise was still in San Antonio.

Indiana Fever Prediction

After a dreadful start, they have bounced back and are now playing pretty decent basketball overall. But their wins have come against lesser teams, i.e., ones that will get eliminated in the first round of the playoffs (if they make it).

Now it’s time to see how they can match up with the two-time defending champions.

Of course, the key to winning will be defense. Heading into the game, the Fever are tied with the Dallas Wings for last in the league in points allowed (87.7; the Aces average 87.8 ppg).

When these teams played earlier in the year, the Aces won 99-80. However, the Fever did hold a lead after the first, 28-24.  But then the offense disappeared in the second period, and the defense disappeared in the second half.

The Fever has come a long way since that game, though. To beat the Aces in Las Vegas, they will need to play their best game of the season. Their best bet may be to try to outscore them. It will be hard to slow down the league’s most productive offense.

But if Caitlin Clark can heat up from three-point range, Aaliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell can catch fire early…. It may not be impossible to match the Aces point for point and make the game come down to the final moments.

Las Vegas Aces Prediction

Had this game occurred a couple of weeks ago, it would be tough to say confidently that the Aces would win. They were productive on the offensive end of the court but couldn’t stop anyone on the defensive end.

During a seven-game stretch (from May 31 to June 15) in which they went 2-5, Las Vegas scored 85.3 ppg, the third-best in the league. But in that same stretch, they allowed 88.9 ppg. Only the Fever had a worse defensive rating than the Aces’ 108.4 (109.1).

To be fair, they did play some of the best teams, e.g., Minnesota, Seattle, New York. But they also played some lesser teams, e.g., Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Phoenix.

But this game is taking place in the present when they are working on a four-game win streak in which the defense has been the third-best unit in the league (97.8 defensive rating). During the streak, they are allowing 79.3 ppg (fourth best) and scoring 90.5 ppg (second best).

So, if the Aces are dialed in again, it could be a long day for the Fever and their fans.

Fever vs. Aces Pick

Anyone can win this game, of course. But it is much harder to create a convincing scenario in which the Fever wins this game. At most, they may be competitive, but not to the extent they threaten to win. They’ll stay within ten points, close enough for the Aces to keep the first team.

But they’ll never actually threaten to win. Or the Aces’ league-best offense will decimate Indiana’s defense, and this one will go ugly early.

We are not confident that the Aces can cover or that the Fever will keep it competitive, and there is no value in taking Las Vegas to win outright. But we see this game being surprisingly competitive, with both teams scoring in the high 80s or the Aces scoring in the mid-90s while Indiana puts up about 70.
