When the octagon door closes and the fight between former champion Alexander Volkaovski and Diego Lopes begins, the championship currently held by Ilia Topuria will be considered officially vacated.
Topuria, who won the title from Volkanovski and defended it once, will be making the move up to the lightweight division.
Number-one contender Volkanovski won the featherweight title in 2019 and defended it five times. His last fight was his UFC 298 title loss to Topuria that took place last February.
This Saturday’s main event will be Volkanovski’s tenth championship fight in a row.
He takes on surging star and number-three ranked Diego Lopes. Lopes became a huge fan-favorite when he debuted on short-notice against the undefeated Movsar Evloev. Lopes lost the bout but quickly rebounded by winning his next five fights in a row.
The BJJ black belt most recently defeated former two-time title challenger Brain Ortega by decision at UFC 306 last September.
Lopes will be the taller fighter by five inches and will have a one-inch reach advantage. Lopes is listed at -102 via FanDuel while the former champ Volkanovski is listed at -125 via FanDuel.

Two of the most polarizing figures in the lightweight division when it comes to fan reaction and engagement will go toe-to-toe in this weekend’s main event.
The always cocky Paddy Pimblett, currently ranked as the number-12 UFC lightweight - has yet to lose a fight during his time with the promotion. He has six wins in the octagon with his most recent win coming against King Green - a fight he won by first-round submission last July at UFC 304.
A former Bellator champion, Michael Chandler joined the UFC in 2021 and has gone just 2-4 with the promotion. He is still ranked as the number-seven lightweight in the UFC. He most recently lost to Charles Oliveria last November. Prior to that loss he hadn’t fought since his submission loss to Dustin Poirier in 2022.
Paddy Pimblett comes in as the -160 favorite via FanDuel to win. He will stand two-inches taller and have a two-inch reach advantage over Chandler as well.

Former Bellator featherweight champion and BJJ black belt Patricio “Pitbull” Freire will make his UFC debut this Saturday where he will take on taekwondo black belt and former UFC interim featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez.
Pitbull last fought in March 2024. He defeated Jeremy Kennedy by third-round TKO, defending his featherweight title in the process. Bellator was absorbed by the PFL and contract disputes led to the release of Pitbull. He never lost his championship.
Yair Rodriguez has lost his last two fights in a row. After winning interim gold, he lost his undisputed title fight to then-champion Alexander Volkanovski. He followed that loss with a third-round submission loss to Brian Ortega that took place last February.
This will be the first fight of 2025 for both men. Rodriguez - the number-five ranked featherweight in the UFC - will stand five-inches taller and have a 5.5-inch reach advantage. He is listed as the -205 favorite at FanDuel.

This fight did not take long to come together. After his first-round TKO win over Melsik Baghdasaryan less than two months ago, Jean Silva immediately got on the microphone in his post-fight interview to call out Bryce Mitchell.
Silva is on a 12-fight winning streak that includes four stoppage wins in the UFC.
Bryce Mitchell, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, is 2-2 over his last four fights and is coming off of a recent third-round KO win over Kron Gracie that took place last December.
Mitchell will stand two-inches taller and have a one-inch reach advantage. Although he is ranked at number-13 in the division, Mitchell will be the betting underdog at +200 via FanDuel.

Having recently snapped a four-fight losing streak with back-to-back wins over Dustin Jacoby and Anthony Smith, former light heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes is back on the main card.
This Saturday he will take on the number-eight ranked Nikita Krylov.
Krylov has won his last three fights in a row but hasn’t fought since his first-round submission win over Ryan Spann back in March 2023.
Reyes will stand one-inch taller but Krylov - the -200 favorite to win via FanDuel - will have a slight, half-inch reach advantage.
