It’s not every day that you see a number-eight ranked fighter receive a UFC title shot but that is exactly the situation Khalil Rountree will find himself in this Saturday night.
Currently riding a five-fight winning streak, Rountree most recently defeated former light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith via TKO last December.
In this weekend’s main event, Rountree takes on champion Alex Pereira - one of the most active champions in recent history.
Pereira won the title last November and has already defended the belt twice in 2024 - both times against former champions.
A kickboxing specialist, Pereira holds black belts in both kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. With Rountree holding credentials in muay thai, it is expected that this fight will stay on the feet. If it does, the champion will look to utilize his 2.5-inch reach advantage.
Khalil Rountree has nothing to lose here which could make him dangerous. He is currently listed as the +350 underdog at FanDuel.

The second of two title fights on this weekend’s card, women’s bantamweight champion Raquel Pennington will make her first title defense since winning the vacant belt against Mayra Bueno Silva back in January.
She takes on former champion Julianna Pena - a fighter who has been out of action due to injury and who hasn’t fought since her July 2022 title loss against Amanda Nunes.
Pennington’s title win over Silva marked her sixth win in a row. Despite her 1.5-inch reach disadvantage, Pennington is listed as a -180 favorite at FanDuel to retain her gold.

The oldest fighter on the main card, the “King of Rio” and former featherweight champion Jose Aldo still appears to have a lot left in the tank after coming out of retirement.
Following his loss to Merab Dvalishvili in 2022, the BJJ black belt Aldo bounced back with a big win over Jonathan Martinez at UFC 301 this past May.
He takes on Mario Bautista, a fellow BJJ black belt who has now won six in a row.
Bautista is coming off of a unanimous decision win over Ricky Simon that took place back in January. He will stand two inches taller than Aldo and also have a two-inch advantage in reach.
Bautista is favored at -150 at FanDuel.

Former PFL champion and Olympic gold medalist in judo Kayla Harrison will be making just her second octagon appearance in the UFC this weekend. She debuted for the promotion this past April - submitting the former bantamweight champion Holly Holm in the second round of their UFC 300 bout.
Harrison will take on the number-two ranked Ketlen Vieira, who holds black belts in BJJ as well as in judo: Harrison’s specialty.
Vieira is 3-1 in her last four fights. She has not fought since July 2023, when she defeated Pannie Kinzaid via unanimous decision.
At a lop-sided -1100 at FanDuel, Kayla Harrison is not only favored to win, but she is the biggest betting favorite on the entire main card.

After a brief stint at light heavyweight, in which he stepped up on short notice to challenge and defeat former champion Anthony Smith, number-ten ranked middleweight Roman Dolidze returns to 185-pounds to take on the always entertaining Kevin Holland.
Holland, who holds a black belt in BJJ and a second-degree black belt in kung-fu is just 3-2 over his last five fights. However, he is coming off of a very impressive submission victory over Michal Oleksiejczuk that took place this past June at UFC 302.
Dolidze, who actually snapped a two-fight losing skid with his win over Anthony Smith, will kick-off this weekend’s main card as a +120 underdog against Holland at FanDuel, who will also have a five-inch reach advantage.
