UFC 237: Namajunas vs Andrade - Odds, Predictions and How to Watch

(C) Rose Namajunas (8-3) vs Jessica Andrade (19-6) – Strawweight division

Riding a three-fight win streak that saw her not only win the strawweight title from Joanna Jedrzejczyk but also defend it in a rematch, Rose Namajunas now puts her title on the line against number-one contender Jessica Andrade in Andrade’s home country of Brazil.

Namajunas, 26, last fought over a year ago, when she defended her strawweight championship against former champion Jedrzejczyk on April 7, 2018 in Brooklyn, New York. Namajunas won the fight via five round unanimous decision. Prior to that, she had won the title from Joanna via first-round TKO.

”Thug” Rose stands at 5 feet, 5 inches and possesses a 65 inch reach. She fights out of Denver, Colorado with head coach Trevor Whittman at the 303 Training Center. Namajunas has a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and black belts in both karate and taekwondo.

Jessica Andrade, 27, is ranked number one in the UFC women’s strawweight rankings. Andrade last fought on September 8, 2018 in Dallas, Texas where she defeated Karolina Kowalkiewicz by first-round knockout. She is riding a three-fight win streak that saw her take unanimous decisions from Tecia Torres and Claudia Gadelha.

”Bate Estaca” stands at 5 feet, 2 inches tall. She has a 62 inch reach – giving up three inches to her opponent. Andrade fights out of Brazil with the Parana Vale Tudo team. She fights with a boxing and muay thai style and has a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Gilliard Parana.

Jared Cannonier (11-4) vs Anderson Silva (34-9-1) – Middleweight division

Jared Cannonier is currently ranked number ten in the official UFC middleweight rankings. Cannonier last fought on November 3, 2018 in New York, New York where he won via TKO over David Branch. Before that victory, Cannonier had lost two fights in a row.

”The Killa Gorilla” stands at 5 feet, 11 inches tall and has a 77 inch reach. The former light heavyweight and heavyweight trains out of Phoenix, Arizona and trains with the teams of Gracie Barra and The MMA Lab. He has been active since 2011.

Anderson Silva, 44, is an MMA and Brazilian legend. His last fight came against now interim middleweight champion Israel Adesanya on February 10, 2019 in Melbourne, Australia. He lost the bout via unanimous decision. Prior to that, Silva had defeated Derek Brunson by a unanimous decision of his own. He is 1-3 in his last four fights and is officially ranked at number 15 in the division.

”The Spider” is 6 feet, 2 inches tall, three inches taller than Cannonier, and has a reach of 77.5 inches. He is a southpaw that fights out of Brazil with coaches such an Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Mark Munhoz, and Pedro Rizzo. Silva has a black prajied in muay thai, a yellow rope in capoeira, a third-degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and a fifth-degree black belt in taekwondo.

Jose Aldo (28-4) vs Alexander Volkanovski (19-1) – Featherweight division

Former featherweight champion Jose Aldo, 32, responded to losing two in a row to Max Holloway by putting together a two-fight win streak of back-to-back TKOs. His last fight was against Renato Moicano on February 2, 2019 – also in Brazil. He won the fight in the second round. He is still ranked number one in the UFC featherweight division.

”Junior” is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and possesses a 70 inch reach. The Brazilian trains with Nova Uniao and Ruas Vale Tudo. Also has a black belt in Luta Livre and also a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Andre Pederneiras.

Alexander Volkanovski, 30, is riding a 16-fight winning streak that leaves him ranked number four in the UFC rankings. His last bout was against Chad Mendes at UFC 232 in Inglewood, California on December 29, 2018. In a fight of the Night effort, Volkanovski TKO’d Mendes in the second round.

”The Great” stands at 5 feet, 6 inches tall and has a 71.5 inch reach – an advantage of 1.5 inches over Aldo. The Australian mixes kickboxing and wrestling into his style and trains with the Freestyle Fighting Gym. He has a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Joe Lopez. He hasn’t lost since 2013.

Thiago Alves (23-13) vs Laureano Staropoli (8-1) – Welterweight division

Thiago Alves, 35, last won a split-decision over Max Griffin back on February 2, 2019 in Brazil at a UFC Fight Night event. Alves had lost two in a row prior to his fight with Griffin and has gone 2-4 in his last six fights.

”Pitbull” stands at 5 feet, 9 inches tall and has a 68 inch reach. He fights out of Coconut Creek, Florida where he trains with the American Top Team gym, where he is also a striking coach. He has a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Laureano Staropoli, 26, will be making his second UFC appearance when he faces Alves. Staropoli last fought on November 17, 2018 at UFC Fight Night 140 where he beat Hector Aldana by unanimous decision.

”Pepe” is an even 6 feet (three inches taller than Alves) and has a 71.5 inch reach – a 3.5 inch advantage over his opponent. He fights out of Argentina with Invictus MMA and is riding a six-fight win streak.

Francisco Trinaldo (23-6) vs Diego Ferreira (15-2) – Lightweight division

Francisco Trinaldo, 40, has gone 2-2 in his last four fights – the last one coming against Evan Dunham at a UFC Fight Night on September 22, 2018. Trinaldo TKO’d Dunham with a knee to the body in the second round.

”Massaranduba” stands 5 feet, 9 inches tall and has a 70 inch reach. The kickboxing and submission specialist, like many on this card, fights out of Brazil. He trains with Evolucao Thai and Constrictor Team. He has a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and a black belt in kickboxing.

His opponent, Diego Ferreira, 34, last fought on February 23, 2019 in Prague, Czech Republic. He defeated Rustam Khabilov via unanimous decision. The victory was his fourth win in a row and his last loss came against now interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier.

Ferreira stands is also 5 feet, 9 inches tall but has a 74 inch reach, giving him a four inch reach advantage over Trinaldo in this fight. Ferreira fights out of Texas with ATOS Jiu-Jitsu and Fortis MMA. He has a third-degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
