Onyx Odds is a mobile-only social sportsbook that lets you make free predictions on major sports, such as football, basketball, ice hockey, baseball, tennis, soccer, and MMA.
I signed up for an account and received 1,000 Onyx Coins that came in handy for testing. Below is my comprehensive first-hand Onyx Odds review, featuring details on the sportsbook’s market offerings, bonuses, purchase options, customer support, and more.

I found a handful of promotions at Onyx Odds, but, at the end of the day, I was left wishing for more. Aside from the sign-up bonus that only includes the non-redeemable Onyx Coins, players can make use of a referral bonus, a parlay boost, and a mail-in offer. There’s no first-purchase bonus, and the boosts you get offered via email are few and far between.
The main Onyx Odds bonus is the welcome offer that granted me 1,000 Onyx Coins as soon as I completed the quick registration process. Considering that the minimum prediction is only 1 Onyx Coin, this welcome bonus allowed me to spread and diversify my predictions across multiple sports and markets.
However, it’s a shame that I didn’t get any Onyx Cash on sign-up. Sweepstakes casinos and sportsbooks usually give out a small amount of their redeemable currency to new account holders, but Onyx has decided against this promotional strategy for some reason.
Although there is a promo code box that you can fill out during registration, I didn’t need any particular bonus codes to receive the sign-up bonus. Once I created my account, the 1,000 Onyx Coins instantly appeared in my balance.
The 30% Profit Boost was the first Onyx Odds promo I saw in the promotional banners at the top of the homepage. This boost only affects parlays and the only condition is that you have at least three selections on your parlay. To claim the offer, you must tap the Opt-In button located on the banner, after which it will say “Claimed”. From there, just make your 3-leg parlay, and the profit boost will be applied to your potential winnings.
Onyx’s referral promotion consists of 15 Onyx Cash that your friend will receive once they complete their first purchase. Simply tap on Copy Link and send the link to your friend. Once they register and lay down their initial payment, they will get the bonus. Interestingly, there’s no information on what you as a referrer get from this offer.
Like most sweepstakes platforms, Onyx Odds too features an alternative method of entry or the so-called mail-in bonus. You must mail an envelope to a specified address (details can be found in Account > Sweepstakes Rules), after which you’ll receive 5 Onyx Cash. The maximum number of requests per participant is 100.
A distinguishing feature of Onyx Odds is that it’s not available on computers. Once you try to sign up using a PC or laptop, you will get a message saying “This site is only available on mobile browsers”. There is a way around this if you install a mobile simulator extension, but it’s not an ideal solution UX-wise, so it’s best if you access the site via your smartphone.
It’s puzzling why the operator chose to be mobile-exclusive, especially since there is no Onyx Odds mobile app at the moment. Fliff, another popular social sportsbook, has done the same, but at least it has iOS and Android apps. This aside, I quite liked its website design.
The Onyx Odds mobile site is elegantly designed with straightforward navigation.
The sports menu up top lets you choose between popular leagues and competitions complete with clear pictograms indicating each sport. This is also where you can select the Live section containing all events that are currently in play. Below the menu, you’ll find all the promotional banners, followed by all the featured events ordered by popularity.
The top left corner is occupied by your balance and opposite to it is the toggle switch that lets you change between Onyx Coins and Onyx Cash. To purchase or redeem coins, you just tap the plus button next to your balance.
A detail I really liked is how the secondary color adapts based on the selected currency. When playing with Onyx Coins, the odds and highlighted buttons are purple, whereas selecting Onyx Cash changes them to green. This visual cue is a great touch, as it instantly reinforces which currency you're using, reducing the chance of mistakes and making gameplay more intuitive.
I also love the play slip design. Once I tapped on the odds, the Bets tab popped up, alongside a number indicating how many selections I had made. Once I finished making selections, I entered the Bets tab where the options to play those selections individually or create a parlay were clearly laid out.
Reaching technical pages and policies is also easy, as they’re all neatly listed on the Account tab. This is where you can see your transaction history and how much Onyx Cash you have available for redemption.
Onyx Odds Sports Details | |
---|---|
Number of sports | 7 |
Popular leagues and competitions | NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, NCAA, UEFA Champions League, English Premier League, MLS, tennis majors, UFC |
Live betting | Yes |
Live streaming | No |
Notable features | Same-game parlays, profit boosts |
The only area in which Onyx Odds disappointed me was the overall selection of sports. There are only several popular sports on the menu, including the Big 4 major US leagues, collegiate sports, football, tennis, and UFC.
Of course, I did have to curb my expectations here since sweepstakes sportsbooks generally have fewer sports compared to real-money ones. Nevertheless, even when I looked at competitors like Fliff and Sportzino, I could find some niche options like table tennis, volleyball, and golf.
Only popular tournaments are featured in the tennis section, and there’s not too much soccer other than the European Big 5, UCL, MLS, and Liga MX.
The number of markets is not that extensive either, although I do like the range of player props on NFL and NBA games. For example, I took a look at a random NBA game and found that you can predict individual player’s points, rebounds, assists, and made threes, and even make combos like “points+rebounds+assists” or whether a player will record a triple-double.
Live betting is available on all events, enabling you to place predictions once the event has started. One of the newest features at Onyx Odds are same-game parlays. Games labeled with SGP and SGPx allow you to parlay your picks from the same game or across different games.
Like any online sweepstakes platform, Onyx Odds offers optional purchasing of their non-redeemable currency. Making purchases is completely up to you, of course, since you can obtain both Onyx Coin and Onyx Cash for free through various promotions.
Keep in mind that Onyx Coins are for fun play only, while Onyx Cash can be redeemed for actual cash prizes. Keep scrolling to learn more about payments at Onyx Odds sportsbook.
Onyx Odds Payment Details | |
---|---|
Payment methods | Debit/credit card, Trustly, MuchBetter, PayPal, ACH |
Minimum purchase | $10 |
Maximum purchase | $500 |
Minimum prize redemption | 20 Onyx Cash (equals $20) |
Prize redemption time | Several business days |
To purchase Onyx Coins, I tapped the plus button next to my balance. This opened a menu featuring six different purchasing options.
Onyx Coins | Free Onyx Cash | Price |
---|---|---|
10,000 | 10 | $10 |
25,000 | 25 | $25 |
50,000 | 50 | $50 |
100,000 | 100 | $100 |
200,000 | 200 | $200 |
500,000 | 500 | $500 |
The cheapest package is $10, which is a bit steep considering that most top-rated sweepstakes casinos set the starting price at $1.99 or $2.99. Onyx Odds accepts Visa, Mastercard, AmEx, and Discover credit and debit cards, as well as Trustly, MuchBetter, PayPal, and ACH, rounding up a solid selection of banking methods.
The prices scale evenly with the amount of Onyx Coins and free Onyx Cash you receive, so there are no better or worse deals. Unfortunately, there are no first-purchase bonuses or special discounts.
I chose a debit card as I usually do, filled out the card details, and submitted the payment. After confirmation, the Onyx Coins and free Onyx Cash that came on top of it were added to my balance.
Onyx Odds offers a good variety of purchasing methods, but let’s see how it compares to some of the other top-performing sweepstakes platforms out there.

Customer service is another area where Onyx Odds could use some improvement. I tried to reach the support team by going to my account tab and tapping on Contact Us. However, nothing happened.
I did find an email ([email protected]) and was disappointed to learn that this is the only way to contact the sportsbook’s support. There’s no live chat or a phone number, and I couldn’t even find an FAQ page.
The support agents took a while to respond (a couple of hours, which isn’t unusual), and while they were friendly and helpful, I do wish there was some way to reach customer care instantly. Alternatively, you can try reaching the casino via its Instagram, X, and Facebook profiles.
According to the website’s terms, there are all but five Onyx Odds legal states. The excluded ones include Idaho, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, and Washington, all of which are commonly restricted due to their specific laws regarding sweepstakes sites.
I liked how quickly I was able to join Onyx Odds. The sportsbook doesn’t bore you with multiple steps, and you’re not required to verify your details right away. I literally signed up in less than 60 seconds, and here’s how it works:
Start the sign-up process: Once you land on the Onyx Odds website, tap on the Sign Up Now button below the Log In button.
Share your credentials: Provide an email, choose a username, and come up with a strong password. There’s also a Promo Code field, but you don’t have to use any specific code to claim the welcome bonus.
Finish the registration: Tap the box claiming that you agree with the site’s terms, and hit the Create Account button at the bottom. Your account will be created instantly and you will receive 1,000 Onyx Coins right away.
There are two types of currency at Onyx Odds, including non-redeemable Onyx Coins and redeemable Onyx Cash. While you technically can’t buy Onyx Cash, a certain amount of it does come as a free bonus when you purchase one of the Onyx Coins packages.
Of course, purchasing is optional, as you can receive both Onyx Coins and Onyx Cash through free promotions. However, I didn’t see any reusable promotions like the daily log-in bonus that is available at many sweepstakes casinos, so manage your initial sign-up bonus wisely.
Here’s what the process of prize redemption looks like at Onyx Odds:
Go to the Account tab.
Review your Onyx Cash balance and see how much you have available for redemption.
Tap Redeem.
Type in the amount you want to redeem.
Connect your bank account or redeem using a debit card.
Fill out the payment details and submit your redemption request.
Keep in mind that you must complete a verification check before being allowed a prize redemption. Also, you can only redeem Onyx Cash that has been played through at least once.
The minimum redemption amount is 20 Onyx Cash, which equals $20. This is one of the lowest redemption thresholds I’ve seen, as most sweepstakes casinos and sportsbooks put the limit at $50 or $100 for cash prizes. On the other hand, there are no gift card redemptions like on many other sweepstakes platforms.
According to the website’s terms, prize redemption requests may go through a long review that can last up to 30 days, although you can expect your request to be processed much quicker. Additionally, you will need to wait a few more business days for the money to reach your debit card or bank account. Prizes of over $500 may require a longer processing time than usual.
A social sportsbook like Onyx Odds and a traditional real-money online sportsbook operate under different models. Even though both allow users to place bets on sports events, there’s a big difference in how these two types of sportsbooks handle wagers and winnings.
With real-money sportsbooks, players deposit actual money, place bets with it, and receive payouts straight up in cash, which they can withdraw right away. In contrast, Onyx Odds uses two distinct virtual currencies — non-redeemable Onyx Coins and redeemable Onyx Cash. Players can obtain these currencies through promotions or opt to purchase Onyx Coins and receive Onyx Cash as a free bonus.
Instead of betting real money, users place wagers with these virtual coins, and winnings can either be used for further play or, in the case of Onyx Cash, exchanged for cash prizes, but only after the awarded Onyx Cash has been played through at least once. For example, if you received 20 Onyx Cash, you must make predictions equal to this amount or higher before it becomes redeemable.
Another key difference is how the law sees these two types of sportsbooks. Since social sportsbooks do not include direct gambling, they can be legally accessible in many of the regions where traditional sports betting is restricted.
Since Onyx Odds collects some personal information from its users, it’s natural to ask the question “Is Onyx Odds legit?”
To start with, you shouldn’t worry about the fact the sportsbook doesn’t operate with a license, as sweepstakes platforms don’t require one. While I was reading through the privacy policy page, I didn’t find any specifics regarding website encryption, although the operator is very transparent in how it collects and distributes player data, promising to do its best to secure it.
I found no complaints or negative feedback regarding the misuse of player data, which leads me to believe that Onyx Odds is safe.

At WSN, we compile reviews from scratch, tasking a sweepstakes expert to conduct a thorough days-long research and write up their first-hand experience of the platform.
When it comes to social sportsbooks, specifically, our expert investigates every major aspect down to the tiniest of details, reviewing everything from the site’s range of sports and markets, to its UX and quality of customer service:
User experience: The first part of our testing process involves sifting through the website and app, seeing how they perform, evaluating the design and navigation routes, and noticing whether there are any loading issues.
Sports, markets, and odds: The core part of every social sportsbook are its sports and market offerings. The more sports and markets there are, the better. We look beyond major events and common predictions and award extra points to sportsbooks that have niche options. We also evaluate odds, making sure that the players can find above-average value on their picks.
Promotions: Constant bonuses and promotions at sweepstakes sportsbooks ensure that you have a steady supply of free coins. We look into the value of the welcome bonus, check the frequency of ongoing reusable promos like refer-a-friend and daily login offers, and dig in to find extra ways of obtaining free currency, either through loyalty programs or special deals.
Purchase and redemption: There are several important things we look into regarding the sportsbook’s banking. We first evaluate the range of coin packages and purchasing methods. Next, we look for first-purchase bonuses and discounts. Finally, we check the website’s redemption policy, checking the minimum redemption limits, playthrough requirements, and typical transaction times.
Customer support: Every player wants to feel like a valued customer when using a social sportsbook. To ensure that, a sportsbook must have multiple contact channels enabled around the clock, preferably live chat and phone support that allow for instant assistance. Furthermore, customer agents should be friendly and quick to respond.
Our main goal here at WSN is to be the best and most trusted source for anyone looking to find the right online casino or sportsbook. Our testers know what it takes to evaluate a given platform and give it a proper rating, as they are often players themselves, with years of experience exploring various sweepstakes and real-money sites.
There’s no sugar-coating. We focus equally on both the positive and negative aspects of a platform, highlighting its strengths, but also raising concerns about potential drawbacks. The reviews you read here are always honest, detailed, accurate, and up-to-date.
Onyx Odds is a solid social sportsbook for novice bettors, but many of its areas are in desperate need of improvement if it wants to compete with the very best.
Starting with what’s good, I like the sportsbook’s mobile site. It’s clean, responsive, and simple to navigate, even for beginners. It’s easy to register and make purchases, complete with plenty of accepted banking methods and packages with varying prices. The redemption limit is also fairly low compared to other sweepstakes casinos and sportsbooks I’ve seen.
Having collegiate sports is another plus, and so is a wide range of game and player props for major events, but I would like to see sports beyond major US leagues, soccer, tennis, and MMA.
Having no Onyx Cash as part of the welcome bonus is a bit frustrating, and the lack of ongoing promotions will leave you no option but to consider making a purchase, even though that defeats the purpose of a sweepstakes platform. There’s no live chat support, and the fact that the site is mobile-only but there’s no official Onyx Odds app is yet another downside.
Since it was only launched in 2024, I will give Onyx Odds the benefit of the doubt. Improvements are expected, and I’m excited to see how it evolves.
Onyx Odds may be a free-to-play sportsbook, but responsible gaming should remain an important consideration for players.
The website advocates this through its Responsible Social Gaming Policy and by providing a comprehensive suite of tools for its users. These tools include purchase, wager, and loss limits set on a rolling 24-hour period, together with self-exclusion and account closure options.
The Policy also includes self-assessment questions and advises those with patterns of problematic behavior to get in touch with the Computer Gaming Addicts Anonymous (CGAA)
