All of Underdogs' features were well laid out and, other than some quick reading on how their mobile Drafts work, I understood everything easily. If, like me, you're a cell phone enjoyer, you'll quickly see how the layout on Underdog Fantasy stands out.

In the past, when using DFS apps, I have found myself confused by the overwhelming amount of information on a smaller screen, but I was pleasantly surprised with Underdog’s user interface.

The opening page on the mobile app allowed me to swipe left three times before I signed up, showing me some features of the app. It’s a nice introduction that eases beginners into the experience. It showed me some features like their Pick'em contests, their draft feature, and some helpful tips about the platform.

The sign-up process was quick and easy. All I had to do was click on “sign-up,” choose a username, confirm my birthday, enter my email and set a password. This took me about two minutes and I was all set up.

Now set up, I looked through the app. I first wanted to check out their Pick'em tab, as it intrigued me the most. 

The first thing that caught my eye was a section called “popular players”. As I swiped through, I found myself liking how it was laid out more and more. Each player had four visible options and a “view more” tab. The part I liked the most about the Pick'em tab was how each player had their name and a picture of them visible. This is a simple touch that really adds to the overall experience and makes it easy for anyone who knows a player's face but can’t think of their name. 

Next, I went to the Drafts section of the app. I found the layout of this section inferior to the Pick'em section of the mobile app. It was cluttered and confusing at times, and took me a while to understand it - in contrast to the immediate understanding of the Pick'em section. 

You can filter each contest by sport and it lays out how much the entry and prizes are. One thing I would like to see improved about the Drafts section is to give more of an explanation of what each draft entails and how you can win. For me, it was more a case of trial and error. 

I also tested out the desktop website and found it pretty similar to the mobile app overall. I enjoyed the layout and thought the Drafts section looked and operated better on the desktop version, where there was more space.

Finally, I tried the site on mobile via a browser. This was the least effective way to use the site, as I struggled to find where to sign in and it kept directing me to the mobile app. 

Personally, I enjoyed the mobile app experience the most. It will be the platform I use when using Underdog Fantasy. It really felt as if the developers put a lot of time into making the mobile app both usable and visually appealing, and it worked. 

Underdog Fantasy Promotions

Promos aren’t a massive part of the Underdog experience, but there are a few interesting offers to be aware of. 

Underdog Fantasy Welcome Offer: 50% Match Bonus up to $250

When I signed up for Underdog Fantasy, there was one active sign-up promo: a 50% deposit match up to $250. 

This promotion is okay, but a little bit behind some of Underdog’s competitors. It’s not as valuable as the 100% match bonus up to $500 at Sleeper and Owners Box for instance. 

I did like how easy the promotion was to claim without requiring you to make a first qualifying bet or anything like that. Instead, I just made my deposit and saw the extra cash there in my account waiting for me. 

It’s clear that this promotion is more geared towards people who are happy to make a relatively large deposit up front, rather than micro-stakes bettors. 

On-Going Promotions

Underdog doesn't have loads of on-going promotions, but there are some nice nuggets along the way. Scorchers are basically the Underdog version of Odds Boosts, where certain Pick’em contests are chosen to receive special enhanced odds. I like how easy they are to spot as you browse the list of contests, and they provide genuine value. 

Refer a Friend

Currently, Underdog Fantasy is also running a refer-a-friend promotion. All you have to do is send your friend your referral link, or they can use your unique promotion code. Once they are signed up and they make a deposit of at least $10, you will be given a $10 credit to your account. 

This is a nice promotion more geared towards lower stakes players. It would be nice to see some higher-value bonuses available for higher-spending friends. 

Underdog Fantasy Features

Underdog provides a relatively small selection of contests and features, all of which I had a lot of fun getting to know. Let’s jump in. 

Pick’ems

Pick'em is a feature on Underdog that allows you to make higher or lower projections on different players during their games. It’s inspired by Over/Under prop betting at real money sportsbooks. 

The first thing that stood out to me was the vast amount of sport options available when making picks. I saw 10 different options when I clicked on “view more.”

They can get pretty specific, too, including alternate lines and other prop-inspired contests. I opted into a contest based on the number of Q1 points for Jayson Tatum for instance, which I found more engaging than the standard options. It meant I paid closer attention than I normally would to each quarter and how the players were doing. 

I really liked how the “view more” tab had news about the player at the bottom along with their past performances. Underdog does a really excellent job of this: combining their contests with sports news and stats. It feels like you’re learning even when you’re not actually entering the contests. 

The multiplier boost on the Pick'em section of the platform was another great feature. I was able to make two picks on an NBA player's total points and the payout was $30. There’s a feature called “flex picks,” which I loved too. It lets you make three Pick'em picks. However, if two out of three of the picks win, you still win your money back.

Drafts

The Drafts feature allows you to enter a team of sports stars and compete against other players for a prize. The idea is closer to the classic DFS contests pioneered by DraftKings and FanDuel, although the software felt more confusing to me. Compared with the immediacy of the Pick’em section, it took me a while to understand the different formats and prize pools. 

During my review, there was a wide variety of drafts per sport, ranging from $5 to $1,000 entries for six different sports, although this list gets updated all the time depending on what’s happening in the world of sports. 

As I explored, the software became easier to use. I like the little information icon beside each contest, explaining the Basic Info, Prize Breakdown and Scoring. The scoring is something that will take a little while to get used to, and I recommend playing some minimum buy-in Drafts first while you get a feel for what rewards players the most. 

I started off with a $3, three-person NBA Draft. For this, the winner received $8, meaning Underdog kept $1 from the buy-ins. I appreciate that they make the cut obvious in this way.

News Feed

Underdog Fantasy’s news feed was something that complemented the platform well. Essentially, it’s a news aggregator, publishing articles about all the upcoming sports featured on the site. It’s a great place to go to check out the latest updates. 

I often looked at the news feed, as it had information that was crucial to making my picks. It felt like having a sidekick with tons of information at my fingertips. I especially liked how the news feed was integrated into the “pick’em’ tab, helping me stay informed about the latest news before I made my picks.

Deposits Options

Depositing and withdrawing funds from Underdog Fantasy is very straightforward. For the deposit options, you have debit, credit and PayPal. It’s not the largest selection in the world, and the likes of Venmo would be a nice addition, but it should cover most people, no problem.

I chose to use my VISA card to deposit $20. The process was virtually indistinguishable from any other purchase online. My phone automatically remembered my card details, so I just had to type in my CVV number. The money hit my account immediately, along with an extra $10 thanks to the welcome bonus. 

Later, I added another $10 via PayPal, which was similarly very smooth. I just followed the instructions and then confirmed the transaction from my PayPal app. Simple. 

Withdrawal Options

Withdrawing was also quite simple. You can choose between PayPal and ACH Transfer. 

I found using PayPal for both deposits and withdrawals to be convenient and effective. The process is very similar to depositing. After I made the request, the money hit my PayPal account within 12 hours. 

Payment Speeds

No complaints from me about the Underdog payment speeds. I didn’t make an ACH Transfer, but Underdog advertises that it can take up to a week. For that reason, I recommend sticking with PayPal if you can. 

Underdog Fantasy Customer Support

While using Underdog Fantasy I decided to give their customer support a try. To do this, I opened the mobile app and went to the “Account” tab. While there, I navigated to an option called “Contact Support”. Then I clicked “Send Us A Message” and sent my question regarding where their contests are available in the United States to Underdog Fantasy’s team. 

It took them just under two hours to get back to me. This was not ideal since I’ve used other platforms that get back to me in minutes. Basically, it’s not a true live chat service, but it’s still not bad. 

When they got back to me, they sent me a message directly on their mobile app. As soon as the message came in, I was notified. I enjoyed how the messaging system is set up on the mobile app. It was easy to use and I liked how it was all in one place. It’s a pet peeve of mine when I’m messaging customer support on platforms and my email inbox gets flooded with each message.

One positive thing about their customer support was how detailed the answer they gave me was. The person I was in contact with wrote me a long message back and answered my questions. They also added extra pieces of information I didn’t directly ask for, which I found helpful. 

You are also able to reach Underdog on social media. I looked over on X and was happy to see lots of interactions between the Underdog team and the general public. You are also able to reach out to Underdog via email at [email protected], which is another good option. I tried this too and received a response the following day - although I sent my original message at almost 9pm. 

Overall, I’m satisfied, although live chat would be a great addition. 

Underdog Fantasy Responsible Gaming

I’m happy to report that Underdog has a very detailed Responsible Gambling section that includes some useful and novel tools to help players stay safe. You can find the full section by scrolling to the bottom of the page, and some of the tools appear on your account home screen too. 

The Responsible Gambling section is extremely detailed. Underdog lists many resources on the platform to aid users in finding the help they need, including multiple resources for different states. It means the help available feels personalized, rather than one-size-fits all general information. Underdog also gives you the option to contact them about anyone you know who may have an issue, which I thought was a great idea. 

You can set limits on the amount of money you can deposit, the number of contests you can enter, or the total you’re spending on entry fees. Again, it feels like they are going the extra mile to provide a tailored experience, keeping the player in control. There is also a temporary cool-off period available, as well as the ability to self exclude altogether for anyone really struggling with their gambling. Overall, I’m impressed with the extent of the Responsible Gambling initiatives on offer.

For a growing platform like Underdog Fantasy, it was good to see how many states it's available in. 

I reached out to Underdog support regarding when and if they would be expanding to other states, and they told me they were in the process. The person I chatted with said it has been a long process and they’ve had to deal with regulations and red tape, but they are working on expanding.

How Does Underdog Fantasy DFS Work?

Underdog is a Daily Fantasy Sports site that hosts Drafts and Pick’em contests that you can enter with real money. If you’re among the winners in the different contests, you win cash prizes. 

Daily Fantasy Sports is distinct from sports betting. The specific legal distinction can vary depending on the state, but sites like Underdog don’t need a regular gambling license in order to operate. This is the reason it is available in 33 states around the US.

Signing up to Underdog Fantasy was very easy. The entire process took me under 2 minutes and the multi-step process is very similar to the registration process at other operators. 

You can start by clicking the green Sign Up button, which opens up the registration process. As you complete each step, you’ll see the yellow bars at the top of the screen fill up, which is a nice visual touch:

1. First, you need to choose a username, which will be your alias on the site.

After my experience on Underdog Fantasy, I’m happy to give it my seal of approval. In particular, I think this is an ideal platform for beginners and casual players, as well as general sports fans who are curious about the world of DFS. 

Compared with the top DFS sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, it offers a more streamlined experience. Both the Drafts and Pick’em contests are very easy to understand, with no barrier to entry for new players. I love the Pick’em contests in particular; it’s normally as simple as choosing Yes or No to a question. 

The News Feed and Rankings sections are both great for sports fans in general. During my review, I found myself periodically checking the News Feed just to see what was going on, as if it were ESPN. 

I can’t speak highly enough of their mobile app. When designing the app, visual appeal was clearly high on their list of priorities, as it comes off as clean and easy on the eyes. Adding the faces of the players who you were picking made for a great user experience and helped me get to know new players. 

Although the overall experience was good for me, there were a couple of things I didn’t enjoy. The Drafts section of both the website and the mobile app was a little crowded and wasn’t as crisp as other sections on the platform. 

I also think adding some more payment methods would be beneficial. Debit cards and PayPal both worked well for me, but having options like Venmo and CashApp would ultimately be more user friendly overall.

Overall, Underdog is a quality platform and with it being so young, I think it can grow and become even better day by day. I’m happy to recommend trying it for yourself
