ThriveFantasy gave their direct competition a seven-year head start before they finally entered the DFS market in 2016, but they’ve still managed to establish a loyal following and maintain a high degree of popularity with the odds stacked against them – so, what makes them different? 

If you’re getting curious, you’re exactly where I was before I decided to spend the week testing ThriveFantasy for myself. In this ThriveFantasy review, I’m laying out everything I discovered about the site, including how it feels to use, the types of games and the latest ThriveFantasy app promo code and bonuses available now. 

ThriveFantasy User Experience 

Before anything else, I decided to poke around the website a little bit and see how it felt to use. I enjoyed a sleek, modern layout of the latest contests at my fingertips and I was happy with how beginner-friendly my experience was. I find it really easy to grasp what was going on right away, with the contests clearly displayed. The moment I logged into my account, I saw this screen: 

Aside from basketball, I wanted to see what other categories I could dabble with here. I clicked on the “Upcoming” tab and noticed a simple banner laying out several popular mainstream sports. Some outdated articles will tell you that ThriveFantasy doesn’t support collegiate betting, but they’ve recently added “CBB” (college basketball) to their wide array of available categories. 

Moving on from their contests, I was keen to discover just how in-depth their “Pick ‘Em” section went. Even though I only saw player props available for well-known NBA teams, they selected all the superstars and shoved them to the front of the line. 

I was surprised with the selection options I had here – in addition to filtering by the 1st and 2nd half of every game, I found props for points, rebounds, assists, and/or a combination of all three. I was also able to view each player’s stats at a glance by clicking on the icon to load this screen: 

This is a great feature to have, especially if you haven’t been keeping up with the action lately. 

Before I put their mobile app to the test, I wanted to add some funds to my account. I clicked on the “Account” tab and selected “Add Funds.” Upon doing so, I was brought to this web page: 

I followed the instructions and had my account topped up within a couple of minutes using my PayPal account. 

Overall, I like the website a lot. All the important settings are viewable at a glance, which saved me the time of digging through lots of redundant menu options before I found what I was actually looking for. Quick loading speeds, crisp graphics & easy-to-use features prove ThriveFantasy as a capable DFS platform.

Next up, I wanted to see if the ThriveFantasy mobile app would match their desktop website. Using my iPhone 14, I downloaded the ThriveFantasy app from the App Store and logged in with my Apple ID. You can also get started with a Google account. 

They’ve done a good job of downsizing their interface to fit in your pocket, and I was pleased to see the same variety of available contests on the home screen. In terms of fast access, their mobile app is even easier to use than their website. It took me all of 30 seconds to enter contests and submit props.

ThriveFantasy Promotions 

Next up, I’m going deep on all the ThriveFantasy bonuses and promotions I found during my review. 

100% Deposit Bonus Up to $250 

ThriveFantasy’s main welcome bonus is pretty simple: a 100% match on your first deposit, up to a maximum of $250. 

There is no promo code required to claim the offer, you just need to sign up and make your first deposit - which is exactly what I did. After depositing $25 to my account and qualifying for the welcome bonus, I found $50 to spend, waiting in my account. Still, users can get up to $250. 

There are some terms and conditions to be aware of. Your bonus expires if you don’t use it within 45 days. During that period, you’ll need to satisfy ThriveFantasy’s 2x playthrough before requesting a payout. That playthrough is applied to your first deposit amount plus your bonus money, and you can’t withdraw any of your regular money until you have cleared the wagering requirements. 

That means that, in my case, I enter contests worth at least $100 (my original $25 deposit + my $25 bonus x 2) before I could withdraw any winnings. In my case, I didn’t find this too difficult and overall it took me three days to clear the bonus. However, I was putting a fair amount of time into the site for this review, and I can see how for more casual players this could be a turn-off. 1x playthrough would be more reasonable, in my opinion.

I didn’t have enough cash handy to deposit $500 in my account, but there’s an option to boost your 100% bonus by up to $120 if you’re a high roller. More fortunate players than myself can get their hands on six free tickets worth $20 each to be used on any available DFS contest, if they choose to deposit $500 up front.

Referral Program 

Once I’d deposited enough money to enter my first contest, I saw an option to claim the referral bonus underneath the Account tab. I submitted a few friends’ emails, but they didn’t get around to filling out the form sent to them. I was surprised to learn that referral prizes are randomized.

Other sites (like FanDuel for instance) typically offer a fixed number of bonus entries after your referral signs up and deposits their own money, but ThriveFantasy adds an element of mystery to the situation by rewarding you with an unknown number of free tix. Overall, I’d prefer to know exactly what I stand to receive. 

ThriveFantasy Features 

Next up, I’m covering the main types of contests and features you can play at ThriveFantasy. 

Player Props/Pick ‘Em Lineup 

I first checked out ThriveFantasy’s Player Props, which can be found under the “Pick ‘Em” tab on their website. I noticed that their entire selection was centered around the NBA, which isn’t amazing, but at least they chose one area and hammered it home with countless great picks. 

There’s plenty of action here, too - I didn’t feel like I had to spend boatloads to win some money. For my first experiment, I picked Jalen Brunson to score more than 28.5 points and spent $5 on the outcome. He didn’t live up to the challenge at hand, but I could have won double my money. 

I’m a basketball fan, so I enjoyed these games. However, Thrive could definitely look to add some more sports here, to capture the interest of more potential players. 

Daily Fantasy Sports Contests

After I’d submitted my first round of player picks, I decided to explore their library of DFS betting categories. I was pleased to find tons of available contests spanning the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and UFC. They occasionally host e-sports contests for League of Legends, DOTA, and CS:GO.

Their other markets include golf and soccer. Your experience may vary, but I saw these markets pop up with available contests twice during the week I used ThriveFantasy. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to see them sans any collegiate football or tennis markets like competing websites. However, they have added college basketball contests to their repertoire in the past year. 

Overall, I'm much happier with the range of sports in this section. 

Notifications

After clicking on “Account” and “Alert Settings,” I was able to schedule notifications to reach me fifteen minutes before game time. I also found an option that would alert me each time I won a prop. Luckily, both these features saved me from forgetting about a contest I’d already entered.

Where Could They Improve? 

Even though ThriveFantasy caters towards beginners and undercuts the competition with their entry prices for DFS contests, I can point out a couple of areas where they could stand to improve.

As of right now, they only have Daily Fantasy pick ‘em for NBA games. Their selection pales in comparison to DraftKings or FanDuel, the latter of which features seven comparable sports.  

I also think ThriveFantasy could look to expand more in terms of on-running promos, like some free-play games or daily discounts. At the moment, there’s not too much going on beyond the welcome offer. 

My Takeaway 

All in all, ThriveFantasy offers a balanced DFS betting experience with plenty of cheap contests, competitive action on NBA player props & a beginner-friendly mobile interface that allows quick and easy bets. After selecting my preferred players and picking the over/under, I submitted wagers in seconds. 

I’m also a huge fan of their search filters, which left me with practically no excuse to not spend a dollar or two just to see what happens. I wasn’t the winner of the century, but I ended my review with more money than I had to start. They weren’t kidding about that 20.2x maximum multiplier. 

ThriveFantasy Deposits & Withdrawals 

Deposit Options 

Before making my first deposit on ThriveFantasy, I clicked on “Account” and then “Add Funds.” Next, I selected the minimum qualifying amount of $25 and clicked “Add Funds” once again to confirm my request. This left me with a 100% bonus worth an extra $25, which was shown on the side. 

High rollers can deposit a maximum of $10,000 per transaction. 

I had the option to deposit with a card, but I chose to use PayPal instead due to faster speeds all-around. The process was quite simple and pretty much on par with other DFS sites – I had to log in with my PayPal email, approve the deposit amount, and click “Continue.” The deposit (and bonus) reached my account instantly. 

Withdrawal Options 

It took me a few days to drum up enough winnings for a worthy withdrawal, after I’d already satisfied the 2x playthrough on ThriveFantasy’s 100% bonus. From what I could see, PrizeOut seemed to be the quickest payment option with near-instant withdrawals.

However, to keep my experience consistent (and avoid setting up a new account elsewhere), I elected to use PayPal and withdrew $50 to my bank account. The payment request was processed in just a few minutes, but it took around 24 hours for my payout to reflect in my available balance. 

ThriveFantasy also gives users the option to request payouts through a VIP Preferred e-check. The minimum you’re allowed to withdraw is $25 at once, and there’s no listed maximum amount. 

Payout Speed 

PayPal and PrizeOut are the quickest options by far – PayPal transactions reach your account within 24 hours, and PrizeOut requests are processed within minutes. Unfortunately, requesting an e-check through VIP Preferred will set you back a full week before you end up getting paid. 

ThriveFantasy Customer Support 

ThriveFantasy promises responsive customer support, but it’s one of their weakest links simply because they don’t offer a live chat feature of any kind. The closest you’ll get is sending them a direct message on Twitter (X), so I embarked on an experiment to see how quickly they replied. 

I sent a regular Twitter DM around 7 p.m. EST, and I received a response from a representative named John within an hour. I was pleased with the professionality and level of information in his replies. I decided to ask how long it would take for a withdrawal to hit my PayPal account, and he explained the process perfectly. 

I wasn’t able to find any other socials for ThriveFantasy, so I decided to test their email address next. As listed on their website, I sent a message to [email protected] and waited for a response. Approximately 24 hours later, I noticed a return email from someone named Jessica. 

Like their social media representative, I had no complaints regarding her knowledgeability and professionality. 

While the actual staff were great, I do think they could do with adding live chat support. Not everyone has Twitter, and people can easily be turned off by having to wait for a formal email reply. Live chat makes everything better. 

ThriveFantasy Responsible Gaming 

I’m happy to report that ThriveFantasy goes the extra mile to incorporate measures that promote responsible gaming. I was able to find their self-exclusion option and set personalized deposit/spending limits through contacting their customer support. 

After sending an email to [email protected], I was asked to select how much money I’d like to spend over a daily, weekly, and/or monthly period. You’ll have plenty of leeway here, and I was pleased to receive a prompt email from their support team once the changes were made. 

However, I wish they’d include an option to manually set your deposit limits and/or self-exclude using their website or mobile app, rather than have to go through email. This would be a key feature that would improve the experience, and is also not widely offered by competitors. As of right now, the only option you have on the site is making a request to delete your profile.

I wasn’t able to locate any specific FAQs regarding ThriveFantasy’s commitment to responsible gameplay, but ThriveFantasy’s policies can be found near the bottom of their T&C. I saw a short explanation of their self-exclusion/self-limit options and the relevant contact details in section 17. I think this could be improved: Thrive could be more up-front about why responsible gambling is important, and why everyone should use their tools.

Where Is ThriveFantasy Legal? 

ThriveFantasy is currently legal in 33 states. However, they don’t take players from the following seventeen states due to local regulations:

If you don’t see your state of residence on this list, you’re all set to go. ThriveFantasy’s legality is less widespread compared to FanDuel and DraftKings, both of which are available to use in 44 states. I’m strictly speaking about their daily fantasy sports betting here, but both sites also have a traditional sportsbook – this is another area ThriveFantasy could investigate in the future. 

How Does ThriveFantasy DFS Work? 

ThriveFantasy offers paid-entry contests for a variety of sports, where you can win real money by competing against other players around the country. The contest formats vary, but you need to build your team which then receives points depending on how the real world players perform.  

Daily Fantasy Sports are not considered to be a form of gambling, and don’t require a gambling license to operate. For this reason, they are widely available around the US, including in states that don’t allow legal online gambling. 

ThriveFantasy is similar in many respects to competing platforms such as FanDuel and DraftKings, but they excel in the “Pick ‘Em” department specifically for NBA enthusiasts. If you’re looking for NBA props for tons of players, I was pleasantly surprised with the selection here. 

From Lebron James to Jalen Brunson, there’s no shortage of teams and available contests. I noticed that ThriveFantasy also puts the focus on fantasy tournaments for NFL lovers, an area in which competing DFS betting sites could stand to improve. They post props early, too. 

There’s pretty decent action on the over/unders with just enough of a margin to reward informed wagers. Some platforms typically offer something of a coin flip with a tightrope so thin the result could go either way. I don’t usually like spending my cash when the over/under is 2 points apart. 

It’s nice to open a notification, pick my players, and select my predictions with just a few taps. In recent years, many DFS platforms have prioritized the mobile experience. ThriveFantasy is one of those sites, and I’d be willing to say I like their app up there with FanDuel’s in-depth mobile experience. 

Newbies to the world of DFS will get a lot of mileage out of ThriveFantasy, but my verdict has to go to DraftKings and FanDuel if you’re a seasoned DFS enthusiast. Although ThriveFantasy specializes in player props, long-standing platforms have more to offer (including more sports such as collegiate football and tennis). 

I also appreciated that I was able to filter contests by entry fee and type: this is just another feature aimed squarely at beginners. I have to give ThriveFantasy props for differentiating their site by targeting Pick ‘Em enthusiasts, which is a woefully underserved niche in the DFS realm.

How to Sign Up With ThriveFantasy DFS 

Signing up with ThriveFantasy proved to be an easy and painless process – certainly on par with the experience at other top DFS sites. All said, it took me around 2 and a half minutes to create a new account and start placing wagers.

1. Click “Sign Up” On ThriveFantasy’s Homepage 

After navigating to ThriveFantasy’s homepage, I clicked on the big, blue “Sign Up” button. 

2. Enter the Required Personal Information on the Next Screen

As I expected, I was immediately redirected to a sign-up page. I typed in my email address and made a new username/password combination before confirming my date of birth. There’s also an optional promo code tab down below, but you won’t need to use it right now. ThriveFantasy might release specific promos that require a code in the future.

After I clicked the “I Agree” checkbox below, I clicked on “Sign Up” and was able to check out the DFS library for the first time. I was able to play around with the filters and sort by date, entry amount, prize amount, and even contest types. 

3. Deposit $25 or More to your ThriveFantasy Account 

I needed to deposit some cash before I was able to see any upcoming contests. I clicked on the blue banner above, but you can also click on Add Funds at the top of the screen.

I was able to get the 100% deposit match with my first transaction of $25 through PayPal. 

If you’d rather not use PayPal, you can also use VISA/MasterCard or a VIP Preferred e-check. 

Again, I found the payment process pretty much on par with my experience at the likes of DraftKings and FanDuel. Thrive’s software is very intuitive and fast, with no lag times or any flags that gave me cause for concern. 

4. Pick Props & Enter Your First DFS Contest

Once I’d created a new account and deposited $25 upfront, I unlocked the ability to view and participate in DFS contests at ThriveFantasy. In all honesty, I wish they would show players what’s currently happening before they require you to make a real money deposit. At the moment, you can’t really get a sense of the site without signing up, which isn’t very friendly to potential new players who are trying to do some research before joining. 

Remember that if you claim your 100% welcome bonus, you need to complete the 2x playthrough requirements down the line before you can withdraw any winnings. 

ThriveFantasy Final Verdict

I would certainly recommend ThriveFantasy to any daily fantasy sports enthusiast who loves the LA Lakers, Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, or another NBA team. They’ve centered their entire player props section around the NBA, which indicates their target audience. 

Personally, I’d like to see them add a few more sports categories to their “Pick ‘Em” lineup. On the bright side, ThriveFantasy offers a solid selection of DFS categories in addition to affordable entry tickets. They’re not quite at the level of DraftKings and FanDuel in terms of variety, but they are up there. I’ve got no complaints about the software - both desktop and mobile - which was a joy to use. 

I like the welcome offer worth up to $250, which represents real value for new players looking to maximize their bankroll. That said, the 2x wagering requirements - applied to both your first deposit and your bonus cash - is a bit steep. I think Thrive could also do with focusing on some more on-running promotions too, which is a bit lacking at the moment, outside of the refer a friend offer. 

ThriveFantasy might not be quite as popular as some of their more renowned competitors, but they give DraftKings and FanDuel a stiff run for their money with similar categories and unique contests not found on either site. If you’re looking for something new, especially as an BA fan, ThriveFantasy fits the bill.
