As Boom Fantasy continues gaining traction, I spent a full week testing their platform for myself. Boom Fantasy User Experience

First and foremost, I poked around the Boom Fantasy website and saw that I’d have to download their app on mobile to actually play the contests. Let’s not beat around the bush: not having a desktop interface is a deal-breaker for many players. If it weren’t for the user-friendliness of their iOS/Android app, I might have gone with another platform.

There was no learning curve here. Once I made an account and logged in, I was transported to their mini-games section in the Lobby. All their Player Picks were clearly displayed, as were their LongShot, Toss-Ups and Favorites. But perhaps my favorite option was their Pick & Spin.

I was able to filter their bet types with a single tap, and their categories were listed underneath. Most of their Pick ‘Em Props and Match-Ups were focused around points, but I was impressed with the number of NBA players and teams they covered. Each player’s stats were also listed. 

I spun their wheel on a $1.00 contest entry ticket and managed to hit a 250x win multiplier. My predictions weren’t correct, so I didn’t get that $250 I was banking on. Aside from basketball, I wanted to see what else they had and I was slammed with a series of unavailable categories. 

To make sure it wasn’t a fluke, I checked back the next day and saw the same disappointing screen. NBA is their bread and butter, but they had no action for virtually any other category during my review.

Moving on from this, I wanted to put their banking process to the test. I clicked on “More” and “Deposit” to add funds to my account. I followed the instructions, submitted my card number, and saw my balance change instantly. Their important settings are also viewable at a glance. 

I was able to see other players’ latest Big Spins and Pick ‘Em wins by clicking on “Recent Wins.” Overall, I don’t have any complaints about using their mobile app. Everything felt fluid, and I like that I can access their Responsible Gaming features whenever I want. Placing bets and making predictions took me all of 30 seconds, and that’s factoring in my initial indecision for their picks. 

Their lack of action across a concerning number of categories is a deal-breaker for me, but I did only spend a week on the platform. As more major events pop up, I’d be surprised if they didn’t build out the selection of contests, which should improve the user experience more.

Invite Friends - Get $25 

I clicked on “More” and “Invite Friends - Get $25” to claim the referral bonus, but you can also opt in with Boom Fantasy’s promotional banner in the Lobby. An invite link popped up, and I saw that I could share it with as many people as I wanted through SMS or email. None of them actually got back to me within the week, so I might need to find some new friends. 

In addition to receiving $25 for each new friend that signs up and deposits, you’ll get 20% of the amount they spend as monthly commission so long as it exceeds $10. However, if you don’t get 4 new friends to deposit every six months, you risk losing all your active friends. 

Earn 10% Back on Entry Fees

For the month of May, I saw that I could earn up to 10% back on my contest entry fees provided I wagered a minimum of $10 per day to qualify. Playing for 5 days would net me 1% of the fees ($0.50), but playing $10/day for 30 consecutive days would get me the full 10% (in this case, $30). It’s a decent promotion, and especially valuable if you are a high volume player. 

Boom Fantasy Features

In this section, I'm going deep on all the different types of contests and features at Boom Fantasy.

Over/Under (Pick & Spin) 

I really like the way Boom has gameified the contests, with little touches that feel like the middle ground between online casinos and sportsbooks. It really helps the platform stand out from the more familiar (dare I say, stuffy?) DFS formats.

The Pick & Spin feature is a prime example. After you enter any contest that includes the feature, you spin a wheel to receive a random multiplier on your payout, which only applies if you actually win the contests. It’s great for both the sweat and the wallet - if you win. 

They are rather unconventional, but I found myself enjoying the four mini-games I saw in the Lobby right away. Their Over/Under Pick & Spin option let me select two players to score over or under a certain number of points/goals/hits in two separate games. Each Over/Under bet involves one player. 

Match-Ups (Pick & Spin) 

The Match-Ups pitted two players from opposing teams against each other in a certain category. For example, I had to pick whether Jokic or Edwards would score 2 more points than each other during a single game. This is a single bet, and you’ll have to pick another Match-Up involving 2 separate players before you can spin the Bonus Wheel. I was lucky enough to hit a 250x multiplier. Unfortunately, AD took down the Joker and I didn’t hit my potentially massive win. 

Daily Fantasy Sports Contests 

Boom Fantasy has three DFS contest formats, aside from their Pick & Spin games: Longshots, Toss-ups, and Favorites. 

Favorites deliver up to 3x your stake, Toss-Ups can get you up to 20x, and Long Shots can get you up to 40x guaranteed if you win. You’ll also increase your win multiplier from 3x to 6x to 10x and 20x for each player you add. If you make five correct player picks, you’ll win 20x your bet. 

I picked five up-and-coming superstars for my first contest: Alexandre Sarr, Zaccharie Risacher, Reed Sheppard, Nikola Topic, and Donovan Clingan. I didn’t win, but hey. I only spent a dollar on the entry fee. They don’t host anything aside from Pick ‘Em contests, which gets repetitive. 

Notifications 

Boom includes optional notifications which I was prompted to allow immediately after signing up, but there was no scheduler. I received one notification each day about an upcoming event, and I usually got them a few hours before game time. While notifications are inherently helpful, they could offer more customization.

Where Could They Improve? 

To put it simply: with more games and sports. 

Boom Fantasy caters towards beginners and experienced players with several novel features like their Pick & Spin bonus wheel, but they could really afford to improve their support for other categories that aren’t NBA. They also only host Pick ‘Em contests, which got really repetitive really quickly in my experience. While it’s nice to play against the numbers and not advanced players gaming the system, they should offer an option for more traditional DFS games in my opinion. 

Their selection and contest variety pales in comparison to FanDuel and DraftKings, as do their ongoing promotions. At the moment, there isn’t much going on besides the welcome offer and their $25 referral bonus. Oh, and they could afford to make a desktop website where I can actually play the games. 

My Takeaway 

Boom Fantasy is trying to reinvent the nature of daily fantasy sports betting by having players answer questions instead of picking rosters. They excel with their Pick & Spin bonus wheel, which gave me an opportunity to win up to 500x my stake. I wouldn’t find that anywhere else and it genuinely adds both value and entertainment. 

They also feature competitive action on the over/unders and Pick ‘Em props for NBA games specifically, and their beginner-friendly mobile interface made it super easy to choose picks. While I didn’t seal the deal, I spun their bonus wheel and had a chance to win 250x my bet. 

Boom Fantasy Deposits & Withdrawals

Deposit Options 

I found the deposit process nice and simple at Boom, although they could add a few more payment methods. 

After I signed up, I was prompted to use the pop-up I saw and click Deposit Now to fund my account upfront, but I was able to add more money by clicking “More” and then “Deposit” while I was logged in. I saw that I could deposit just $10 by playing around with the custom amount. This automatically gave me the “No Sweat First Entry” bonus. High rollers can deposit up to $2,500 per transaction, too. 

I had the option to deposit with my VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and AMEX credit or debit card, or PayPal, so I pulled out my VISA and filled in the necessary information. After I clicked on Deposit again, the funds reached my account instantly. 

Withdrawal Options 

Once I’d won $10+ betting on Pick ‘Em Contests, I was able to request a withdrawal using VISA, MasterCard, AMEX, Discover, or PayPal. Their low minimum payout threshold is compounded by flexible payout maximums, and these are determined at the discretion of their support team. 

I received my $50 withdrawal via debit card in 24 hours. I later deposited and requested a payout via PayPal too, and was pleasantly surprised to receive another $50 withdrawal in 2 hours. All payouts are sent back via your initial deposit method. 

Payout Speed 

PayPal and debit card transactions are both processed within 24 hours, but PayPal is usually on the quicker end of that spectrum. Still, it would be nice to see them incorporate ACH transfers or a couple more e-wallets to be on par with competing sites. 

Boom Fantasy Customer Support 

Boom Fantasy delivers responsive customer support via live chat and email, but their team isn’t around 24/7. I saw that I could get in touch with a real person between 9 AM and 12 AM EST. I also think they could stand to implement a phone line or some kind of social media support line. 

Nonetheless, I wanted to see how quickly they replied on both fronts, so I used their chat bot to select a category I needed help with before I was connected to a real agent. Someone got back to me 2 minutes after that. I was pleased with the professionalism and depth of his chat replies. 

I asked for more information about their No Sweat First Bet, and he was kind enough to go over both the content of the bonus along with its associated conditions. 

Next up, I wasn’t able to find any socials for Boom Fantasy, so I sent a message to [email protected] and began my timer. Four hours later, I received a lengthy return email explaining their withdrawal process. 

Aside from making their chat team into a 24/7 operation and beginning to create a presence on socials, I don’t have many suggestions to make here. Boom offers great customer support. 

Boom Fantasy Responsible Gaming 

Boom Fantasy takes responsible gaming very seriously, going so far as to incorporate measures like a built-in Self Exclusion feature that lasts up to 3 years in their Responsible Gaming section. After clicking “More,” I found their Responsible Gaming page underneath my account balance. 

I was able to set monthly deposit limits between $500 and $10,000, and I was able to restrict the amount I spent on a single entry fee (between $5 and $100). I also saw a way to limit how many contests I could enter in a single week. Once I set them up, these restrictions last for 90 days. 

They’ve also partnered with Birches Health to offer proactive resources and responsible gaming support. Other platforms make you go through an email or live chat to set spending limits. I love how easy it was to do everything within 30 seconds. 

I saw that I could delete my account by sending an email to [email protected], but they could improve in one key area: they don’t say anything about their responsible gaming policies in the ToS or FAQ when they could talk about the importance of their self-limiting tools.

How Does Boom Fantasy DFS Work? 

Daily Fantasy Sports are not considered to be a form of gambling, and don’t require a gambling license to operate. For this reason, they are widely available around the US, including in states that don’t typically allow for legal online gambling. 

Boom Fantasy offers paid-entry contests for a variety of sports, and you can win real money by competing purely against the numbers. Unlike other DFS platforms like FanDuel and DraftKings, you’re not building a roster while trying to stay within a certain budget. 

Instead, you’re answering a single question – for example, their Over/Under bets ask you to pick which of two players will score more points in an upcoming event. You’re also given players’ info before making a decision, putting casual and experienced bettors alike on an even playing field. 

I only needed two picks to spin the bonus wheel and potentially earn up to 500x my stake if my wager was a winner. Unfortunately, they host pick’ em DFS contests exclusively and it would be nice if they gave players the option to compete against one another in a more traditional way. 

The profit margin on the over/unders can be paper-thin. I also didn’t like how the platform goes through lulls where there’s seemingly no action whatsoever, and it would be nice to see them roll out a desktop interface at some point. On the bright side, it couldn’t be easier to place bets. 

I have to give Boom Fantasy props for targeting an under-represented niche and hammering it home, but it wouldn’t kill them to offer something besides Pick ‘Em Contests. If you care about traditional DFS, my verdict goes to DK and FanDuel because you won’t find it at Boom Fantasy. 

How to Sign Up With Boom Fantasy DFS

Signing up with Boom Fantasy was quick and easy, and it certainly felt just as user-friendly as my experience with other top DFS sites. It took me all of five minutes to create my account, verify my information, opt into their No Sweat First Entry bonus, deposit, and place my first bet. 

Follow my simple, step-by-step guide to get started: 

1. Download the Boom Fantasy App on iOS or Android

After navigating to Boom Fantasy’s website, I learned that they only have a mobile interface at the moment. 

You can download their free app on Google Play if you have an Android phone, but I used my iPhone 13 to download their application from the iOS App Store.

I clicked “Deposit” and saw the funds reflected in my account immediately. Their software is user friendly and lag-free, and I’d rank their payment process as equivalent to DraftKings or FanDuel. 

4. Pick A Game in the Lobby or Enter Your First DFS Contest 

After I’d created a new account, I unlocked the ability to see their mini-games in the Lobby. They have four mini-games in addition to regular DFS contests. It would be better if they allowed us to see their contests before depositing money, but I was able to see their Over/Under Bets and the NBA Match-Ups ahead of time. I took these screenshots after clicking the “Pick & Spin” banner.

Boom Fantasy Final Verdict 

I’d wholeheartedly recommend Boom Fantasy to any beginner or experienced DFS bettor who’s looking for something different. They’ve also prioritized NBA events in their props and Match-Up sections. The downside is they don’t currently offer any other sports categories for Match-Ups. 

The primary selling point here is their patent-pending “Pick & Spin” bonus feature. With an entry price of just $1 for two picks, I spun their bonus wheel and set myself up to win 250x my stake. This is a feature you won’t find at FanDuel or DraftKings. 

Beginners aren’t playing against number-crunchers at Boom Fantasy. You’re only facing the numbers, which means you’re not subjected to the soul-crushing algorithms that advanced bettors routinely levy for a quick profit - just the regular, slightly less soul-crushing algorithm of the house edge! They also provide tons of player stats and info.

On the downside, I would like to see a desktop site added, some more regular promos, and, most importantly, some more sports and contests. I really like what Boom is doing, they just aren’t doing enough of it and having so many unavailable messages on their platform is not a good look. There is clear and obvious room to improve and I hope they embrace it. 

All that said, Boom Fantasy might not offer the same contest variety as some of their high-profile competition, but I haven’t seen a single DFS platform that will award you up to 500x your bet if you correctly predict two picks. I’m happy to recommend trying it out for yourself.
