It’s Champ Week, and you know what that means: tickets will be punched for the March Madness Tournament all week long. So, why not join in on the fun before the Big Dance begins?
You can start by betting on games in the first round of the Big East Tournament. St. John’s vs Butler, Seton Hall vs DePaul, and Villanova vs Georgetown will all play in the opening round.
None of the conference’s top teams will play, but it’s a great way to start watching Big East basketball. And if you are a new sports bettor, you can use DraftKings $1000 Promo to get money in your account before the March Madness Tournament.
Betting on games has never been easier, and DraftKings allows first-time sports members to cash in on instant bonus cash prizes. If you are a new bettor and want to cash in on a potential $1,000 bonus just for betting on the first round of the Big East Tournament, WSN has you covered.
The Big East Tournament always has exciting finishes that fans never want to miss. If you want to be eligible for the $1,000 promo, it’s quite easy to claim.
Here’s how:
How the $1000 DraftKings Promo for the Big East Tournament First Round on FS1 works
If you want to win extra money, then betting on the first round of the Big East Tournament and following the steps above will ensure that. All you have to do is bet at least $5 on one of the three games (St. John’s vs Butler, Seton Hall vs DePaul, Villanova vs Georgetown) that play.
DraftKings will match 20% of your first deposit in the form of DK Dollars. So, if you want to deposit $5, they will give you an additional $1 in DK Dollars. To be eligible for the full $1,000 promo prize, you must initially deposit $5,000 when you sign up.
DK Dollars can not be transferred or cashed out but can be used for future bets to win more money.
To read more about the promo, the full terms can be found on the DraftKings website.
8-seed St. John’s (17-14, 7-13) and 9-seed Butler (14-17, 6-14) will match up in the first game of the three-contest slate. These teams split their season meetings with one another.
St. John’s comes into this game after a disappointing regular season. But they have the talent to compete with any team in the conference. Joel Soriano is their best player and has been unstoppable this season, averaging 15.2 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. He had a double-double in both meetings against Butler.
The Bulldogs will have to stop him if they want any chance in this game. They also need to score the basketball, which doesn't come easy for them. Butler does have four scorers that average 10-plus a game, including Jayden Taylor with 13.2, but they only average 65.3 points per game as a team (329th in Division I).
7-seed Seton Hall (17-14, 10-10) will then face 10-seed DePaul (9-22, 3-17) next. The Pirates won both games against the Blue Demons this season, though both games were close.
Seton Hall is probably the only team playing in the first round that has a chance to make the big tournament if they go on a deep run. They have four Quad 1 wins on the year led by their stout defense. Kenpom ranks them 21st nationally in defensive efficiency, and they give up just 65.1 points a game.
DePaul, though, can score, led by graduate transfers Umoja Gibson (15.8 points) and Javan Johnson (14.3 points). The duo has been scoring machines for the team, but the latter has struggled against Seton Hall this year, shooting a combined 2-for-22 from the field. The Blue Demons are, however, 6-1 when Johnson scores at least 20 points.
The final slate of the night features the 6-seed Villanova (16-14, 10-10) and 11-seed Georgetown (7-24, 2-18). The Wildcats won both meetings against the Hoyas this season.
Villanova struggled early under new coach Kyle Neptune. But Justin Moore’s return from an Achilles injury changed the team’s outlook. The Wildcats have four players averaging more than 12.5 points per game. Eric Dixon leads the team in points (16.0) and rebounds (6.5) per game, but Cam Whitmore is probably the most talented of the bunch. The projected top-10 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft adds 12.6 points a game.
As for Georgetown, they need to limit those scorers for Villanova. When the Wildcats only won by four in Jan, the Hoyas owned the glass and outrebounded them by 12. Qudus Wahab and Akok Akok average more than six rebounds on the year and will need to be active in that department. As a team, they also limited Whitmore on 5-for-13 shooting in that game, which they will likely need to do again.
The Big East has been a strong conference all season, and the first round at Madison Square Garden never disappoints. Despite being March, I’m taking all three better seeds to win in the opening round.
