Back Liverpool to beat Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The Reds have been brilliant so far this season and a day’s extra rest should aid their cause.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool Prediction

Tottenham Need to Kick on After Inconsistent Start to Season

Tottenham Hotspur were involved in another topsy-turvy encounter on Thursday, as they beat Manchester United 4-3 in the EFL Cup. Ange Postecoglou’s side stormed into a 3-0 lead in front of their own fans, only to be pegged back to 3-2 by United. Son Heung-min’s goal direct from a corner settled both the home supporters’ nerves and the quarter-final tie.

It was a good result for Tottenham, who are looking to win a first trophy since 2008. They will face Liverpool in the two-legged semi-finals. Such is their desperation for silverware, many Spurs supporters would rather see their side triumph in that EFL Cup tie than in this weekend’s Premier League fixture.

At the same time, Tottenham must improve their position in the top flight. After 16 rounds of matches they are down in 10th spot. A congested top half means they are only five points adrift of the top four, but there is considerable work for Postecoglou and his players to do if they are to qualify for the Champions League.

The manager has shown no sign of being willing to adapt his tactics and inject a little more pragmatism to Tottenham’s game plan. His attack-minded philosophy helped Spurs to a 5-0 demolition of Southampton last weekend. It is only a few weeks since they went to Manchester City and won 4-0.

The problem is, Tottenham are just as capable of the ridiculous as the sublime. They are far too open without the ball. According to the expected goals data, only seven sides have given up more chances so far. Tottenham are excellent going forward but porous at the back. Postecoglou is playing a dangerous game.

Liverpool Flying in Every Competition but Title Remains Key

Liverpool have been remarkably consistent so far this season. The common consensus was that Arne Slot would need at least a few months to bed in at Anfield after succeeding the legendary Jurgen Klopp. In fact, he and his team hit the ground running from day one. In 24 games in charge, Slot has emerged victorious 20 times. That is a fantastic record.

As mentioned above, Liverpool are through to the EFL Cup semi-finals. They are also top of the Champions League and will almost certainly advance directly to the round of 16. Yet the Premier League should be the focus. Liverpool have a two-point lead in top spot, although they have a game in hand on second-placed Chelsea. They are deservedly the sportsbooks’ favorites to win the title.

There was no pressure on the team at the start of the season, since no one really expected them to top the table in their first season under Slot. Make no mistake, though: the Reds now have something to lose and they would be hugely disappointed if they were to miss out on the prize from here.

This is a relatively experienced squad. The likes of Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah have been there and done it before. That should give Liverpool an edge over Chelsea, who have the most youthful group in the division. But it also increases the pressure on the Reds.

Not that Slot will mind that too much. Needless to say, he would have happily settled for this position had he been offered it in the summer. Liverpool are flying in three different competitions and have only lost one game across all of them. Another win on Sunday would be a welcome early Christmas present for Liverpool fans everywhere.

Liverpool Can Burnish Their Credentials With a Win in London

You never really know what you are going to get with Tottenham. At their best they can go toe to toe with the best teams in the division. They have beaten Manchester City and Manchester United twice each this term. Yet Spurs have lost seven league games already - remarkably, only three teams in the division have been defeated more often.

That does not bode well for a duel with the league leaders. It is true that Liverpool have drawn two games on the bounce in the top flight, but they spent most of last weekend’s game against Fulham playing with 10 men and were still the better team.

As well as having a stronger starting XI, Liverpool are cannier than Tottenham. They have the best defensive record in the division and do not leave themselves exposed at the back very often. As for Spurs, they will have to persevere with a makeshift center-back duo of Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray - not ideal when you are up against Salah, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.

This promises to be an entertaining affair and we should be treated to plenty of goals in the final Premier League game before Christmas. In terms of predicting the match result, it is hard to look past a Liverpool win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
