Brentford vs. Liverpool Pick

Back Liverpool to win and over 2.5 goals. Games at the Gtech Community Stadium are usually entertaining, while the Reds should prove too strong.

Brentford vs. Liverpool Prediction January 18

Liverpool Aiming to Get Back on Track in the League

Liverpool dropped two points in the midweek round of Premier League fixtures, but there was not too much for Arne Slot to be disappointed about. The Reds fell behind to Nottingham Forest early on, but they were the better team throughout the match and created enough chances to have won it on another day. Moreover, third-placed Forest are tricky opposition these days.

Still, Liverpool have now won just one of their last four matches in all competitions - and that was against League Two strugglers Accrington Stanley. A 2-2 draw with Manchester United the weekend before last was followed by a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final. Then came the Accrington game, followed by the draw with Forest.

There is no need to panic, however. Liverpool were below par against Manchester United, but they still fashioned numerous opportunities. They remain favorites to advance from that EFL Cup semi against Spurs, while they gave up very little against Forest aside from Chris Wood’s early strike.

“Being 1-0 down over here and so hard to score against this team was not what we wanted, we wanted three points, but what I want and what the fans should want and the players want is they give it everything, and that's what the players did today combined with outstanding football in the second half,” Slot said after Tuesday’s tussle.

Arsenal’s defeat of Tottenham on Wednesday means Liverpool’s lead at the summit of the standings has been cut to four points. It is worth remembering that Slot’s team have a game in hand on those around them, although there is no guarantee they will beat Everton in what will be the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Liverpool do not want to give Arsenal any cause for encouragement, so a back-to-business victory over Brentford would underline why the Reds are in pole position to claim the championship crown in Slot’s maiden campaign. The Gunners play in the late game on Saturday, so a win for Liverpool at 10 AM ET would pile the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s men.

Battling Brentford Know How to Make Games Difficult

You can never relax when you are playing Brentford. In the 82nd minute of their clash with Thomas Frank’s side on Tuesday, Manchester City were leading 2-0. To all intents and purposes, it looked like Pep Guardiola’s side were on their way to a third consecutive league win.

Brentford had other ideas. First Yoane Wissa halved the deficit, before Christian Norgaard powered a header past Stefan Ortega. The Bees even had a chance to win the match deep into second-half stoppage time. Across the course of the 90 minutes, they deserved a point.

No Premier League team has collected more points from home games in 2024/25 than Brentford. Only two teams, Nottingham Forest and Arsenal, have departed the Gtech Community Stadium with all three points. Brentford are also the division’s leading goal-getters if we only take home matches into account.

That is just as well, because the Bees rank a lowly 18th in the away table. They have been heavily reliant on their home record up to now as Frank’s team look to steer clear of a relegation battle. Currently mid-table, it is hard to see Brentford being sucked into the demotion dogfight from here.

Frank continues to do a fine job in west London and we will surely see his name linked with bigger jobs over the next few months. Brentford, needless to say, will be desperate to keep hold of one of the most underrated managers in English soccer.

Expect Goals - And a Liverpool Win - In West London

As mentioned above, Brentford’s 29 home goals is by far and away the best record in the Premier League. The Bees are averaging more than 2.5 goals per game at the Gtech Community Stadium; that is a fantastic achievement given we are now more than halfway through the campaign.

The problem is, they are conceding plenty too. Visitors to the Gtech have scored a combined 21 goals up to now. By way of comparison, relegation candidates like Leicester City and Ipswich Town have been less leaky at the back when playing in front of their own fans.

Brentford have the potential to cause Liverpool problems this weekend. They have lost five of their last six clashes with the Reds, although they did emerge victorious against Jurgen Klopp’s side in January 2023 thanks to a terrific all-round performance.

On this occasion, we expect Liverpool to have too much quality for Brentford. But given how effective the Bees have been going forward, the Reds will probably have to score at least twice to collect maximum points. Go for a Liverpool triumph and over 2.5 goals when these two teams face off on Saturday.
