Arsenal vs. Tottenham Hotspur Pick

Back Arsenal to win and both teams to score. Tottenham Hotspur can find the back of the net against their arch-rivals, but the Gunners should find a way to come out on top.

Arsenal vs. Tottenham Hotspur Prediction January 15

Arsenal Must Keep Fighting Despite Having Mountain to Climb

After a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion in their last top-flight outing, Arsenal head into this north London derby on Wednesday six points adrift of top spot. Liverpool, the current leaders, also have a game in hand on their closest challengers. The Gunners have a major job on their hands to reel in Arne Slot’s side at the summit of the standings.

Arsenal did an excellent job of controlling the first half of that game at the Amex Stadium the weekend before last. But they let Brighton back into the match after the break. By the end of the encounter, Arsenal were on the back foot. Brighton looked like the more likely winners after Joao Pedro had equalized from the penalty spot.

“The run that we are on especially with all the situations, injuries and players that we are missing - I think the team deserves a lot of credit,” Arteta said after that game. “It’s disappointing because it’s not about how much effort we put in today but it was more about the freshness and the quality that we have to deliver in the second half to dominate the game much better.”

Whatever Arsenal do from here, the Premier League title race is not in their hands. Even if they were to win 17 and lose one of their remaining 18 matches, they would finish on 91 points. Liverpool, meanwhile, are on course to end the campaign on 92. That shows how difficult it will be for Arsenal to lift the trophy.

Even so, they must not give up. It looks unlikely right now, but it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Liverpool’s form drops off in 2025. If it does, Arsenal must ensure they have done everything they can to take advantage. Arteta and his players must keep going until the title is mathematically impossible.

Tottenham Hotspur Need to Start Getting Points on the Board

There were positives for Tottenham Hotspur to take from their last Premier League game, a 2-1 home defeat by Newcastle United. Spurs were the better team in the second half as they chased an equalizer. On the balance of play, no one would have begrudged them a draw against one of the in-form teams in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou has been without several key players over the last few weeks. He had to field his third-choice goalkeeper Brandon Austin against Newcastle. His first-choice center-backs, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, have missed numerous matches. Tottenham ended the game with Archie Gray (a midfielder) and Djed Spence (a full-back) at the heart of their defense.

Even so, Tottenham need to start getting points on the board as quickly as possible. Only one of their last eight Premier League games has yielded a victory - and that was against bottom-of-the-table Southampton. Since the beginning of last month, only the Saints and Leicester City have collected fewer points than Tottenham.

All of which means Postecoglou’s side are now 11 points adrift of fifth place (which will probably be sufficient to qualify for the Champions League this term). It will be extremely difficult for Spurs to overturn that deficit with less than half of the campaign remaining. A defeat here would only make their task more difficult.

For his own sake, Postecoglou also needs to turn things around. The Australian’s job is not thought to be under immediate pressure, not least with his team still in the EFL Cup, FA Cup and Europa League. But if Tottenham continue losing Premier League games, Postecoglou will be in trouble.

Clean Sheet Could Elude Arsenal but Hosts Deservedly Favorites

Arsenal won the first north London derby of the season in September. Gabriel Magalhaes scored the only goal of the game as the Gunners successfully shut out their chief adversaries. That was no mean feat: Tottenham are the second-highest scorers in the Premier League going into the midweek round of fixtures.

It is doubtful whether they can repeat the feat here. Arsenal have one of the best defensive records in the top flight, but they have conceded in four of their last six Premier League games. They are also facing one of the best attacks in the division, as evidenced by Tottenham’s record of 42 goals in 20 matches.

If they do not keep a clean sheet, Arsenal would need to score at least twice to triumph. They are more than capable of doing that, even without the injured Bukayo Saka. Tottenham are too open without the ball and they will not be able to field their first-choice backline at the Emirates Stadium.

All things considered, we recommend backing an Arsenal victory in a game that features goals at both ends. This promises to be an entertaining edition of the north London derby.
