Back Arsenal to win and both teams to score. Manchester United can make the net bulge on Wednesday, but avoiding defeat will be tough.
With Manchester City in freefall, Arsenal have emerged as the likeliest challengers to Liverpool in the Premier League title race. Mikel Arteta’s men looked a little tired before the November international break, but they seem to be refreshed now. Three wins on the bounce, including two in the league, have brightened the mood at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal stormed into a 4-0 lead within 36 minutes of their meeting with West Ham United in the late kick-off on Saturday. The Hammers pegged them back with two goals in quick succession, but Arsenal went on to win 5-2 and move up to second in the standings as a result.
The problem is, Arsenal are still nine points behind Liverpool at the summit of the standings. The Reds are setting a relentless pace under Arne Slot, who has done a magnificent job after replacing Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout over the summer. The sportsbooks have the Reds down as strong title favorites as things stand.
Liverpool, who have only lost one game in the top flight so far, are bound to have a blip at some point. However, Slot will hope that this nine-point buffer provides them with sufficient room for error. As for Arsenal, they cannot afford too many more slip-ups between now and the end of the campaign in May.
That includes virtually every home game. The atmosphere at the Emirates has improved greatly in recent years, and Arsenal need to use that to their advantage. Even when teams like Manchester United are in town, the Gunners must adopt the idea that only three points will do. If they can do that, a title tilt is not out of the question despite Liverpool’s sizable advantage.

Ruben Amorim has lift-off at Manchester United. After a rather disappointing 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town in his first game in charge of the club, the Portuguese manager oversaw back-to-back home victories. First, United beat Bodo/Glimt 3-2 in the Europa League, before demolishing Everton 4-0 in the Premier League.
It was a much-needed result for Amorim and United, who are now up into the top half of the table. The Red Devils remain outsiders for a top-four finish, but a positive run of form between now and the start of 2025 could put them right back in contention. A victory over Arsenal on Wednesday would be a real statement of intent.
Amorim made it clear from the get-go that he intends to do things his way. He immediately introduced his favoured 3-4-3 formation, a system which brought him huge success at Sporting CP, despite it being an awkward fit for some of the players in the United squad. It will take a few months before the players are fully up to speed.
United have not even challenged for a Premier League title since Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, so Amorim has a big task on his hands to overturn a decade-long spell of underachievement. The early signs are broadly positive, though, and the supporters are pleased with Amorim’s perfectionist streak.
“It was far from a perfect performance,” he told BBC Sport after the Everton game. "We have to improve, you can feel that in the game. I felt that the players could solve some problems that we have as a team because of the quality that they have, but it was far from a perfect performance, but a really good result and tough match.”

As the above quotes demonstrate, Amorim still realizes Manchester United have a long way to go. He inherited a team that was closer to the relegation zone than the top four. It will take more than a few weeks to solve the problems that caused such a predicament.
This is Amorim’s toughest test yet. Arsenal look to have regained their mojo, thanks in large part to the return from injury of Martin Odegaard. The Gunners are a different team when Odegaard is dovetailing with Bukayo Saka, who is up there with the best wide forwards in world soccer right now.
Saka could be the key man on Wednesday. There is space to be exploited behind United’s wing-backs, who are still adjusting to their new role. Saka is smart enough to take advantage of the gaps left behind.
Arteta’s team are not as defensively solid as they once were, however. They shipped two goals to a poor West Ham side at the weekend, which means they have conceded in nine of their 13 games in 2024/25. United, for their part, have become less wasteful in front of goal since Erik ten Hag’s exit.
With all that in mind, an Arsenal win and both teams to score is the best choice for sports bettors.
