A new episode of Ride the Line with Grant Mitchell and Tanner Kern is now live on all WSN platforms!
A special (early) holiday episode of Ride the Line sees the boys agree to both pick the Atlanta Braves at -1.5 against the Cleveland Guardians in what is the show’s lock of the day. The Braves have been other-worldly on offense and have Bryce Elder getting the start, giving them a clear path to victory.
The Guardians will trot out Gavin Williams for just the third start of his career—Williams’ first two games were against the Oakland Athletics and Kansas City Royals, and this represents a significant jump in difficulty against a team that leads the MLB in scoring, home runs, slugging percentage, on=base percentage, and batting average over the last month.
Grant’s first solo pick of the show is on the Minnesota Twins -1.5 against the Royals. Not only are the Royals the worst team in baseball against the spread, but the Twins get the benefit of starting Joe Ryan, who had a 2.98 ERA prior to being obliterated by the Braves last week.
The Royals’ offense looked lively against the Los Angeles Dodgers recently but has consistently been one of the worst in the league. Still, Tanner holds reservations over this pick because of that.
Tanner’s next pick is on the Cincinnati Reds against the Washington Nationals. Even though the show is celebrating the nation, Tanner likes Cincy’s high-powered offense to steer them to a win in a matchup that features two sub-par pitchers in Luke Weaver and Jake Irvin.
Grant’s second pick for Monday is the Pittsburgh Pirates +1.5 against the Dodgers. He is looking to Mitch Keller, who already led a 6-4 win against LA with two earned runs and 10 strikeouts in six innings earlier this season, to once again dominate on the mound. It’s also a bullpen day for a Dodgers team that is 22nd in relief ERA.
The Pirates are 12-5 against the spread in games in which Keller starts this season. Tanner agrees with Grant that the trend will hold and Pittsburgh will be competitive.
Tanner’s final pick of the show is the Baltimore Orioles’ moneyline against the New York Yankees. NY starter Domingo German is coming off of a perfect game but still has an ERA in the mid-4’s, whereas Baltimore’s Tyler Wells is at 3.21 with a .88 WHIP.
The Yankees’ offense has fallen off a cliff ever since Aaron Judge went out of the lineup with an injury. Both Grant and Tanner are confident in this one hitting and love the value it represents.
The final pick of the show comes from Grant and is for the Miami Marlins to take a moneyline win against the St. Louis Cardinals. Miami, as Tanner noted, is one of the most improved teams in the league and was playing excellent baseball prior to their weekend run-in with the Braves.
Braxton Garrett will get the start for Miami, while Miles Mikolas will open for the Cardinals. Garrett has a better ERA and WHIP and has been the more trustworthy pitcher this season, while Miami’s offense significantly outranks St. Louis’ in most offensive metrics.
