You’d have to be living under a rock not to be aware of Virgin Group. The multinational conglomerate founded by Richard Branson and Nick Powell in 1970 has spread into dozens of diverse industries, from airlines to cell phone providers.
But not everyone knows that Virgin is in the United States, thanks to a partnership with Tropicana Casino and Resort Atlantic City.
There’s a certain prestige that comes with a company like Virgin, so we thought we’d better ask our experts to see how the casino stacks up against all that competition in New Jersey online casinos – and they’ve got plenty to say.
We’re covering all our thoughts here, from details about the casino games and the software to payment methods and bonuses. We’ve got lots of highlights, and some areas we think Virgin could improve too. Let’s go.
If you’re a regular reader you might have noticed that a lot of casino bonuses seem a little the same after a while, with the same promos cropping up again and again. I'm happy to report Virgin has freshened things up, with some fresh offers you’re less likely to find at other NJ casinos. Let’s check them out.
Virgin’s welcome bonus is a cash-back offer based on your first deposit and initial bets. You’re eligible to claim back up to $100 if you lose 90% of your first deposit at any point within 7 days. Alternatively, you can claim up to $100 of your net losses after 7 days have elapsed.
There are good and bad aspects to this bonus. First the good: you’ll receive your money back in real cash you can withdraw immediately, with no wagering requirements attached. Theoretically, you could deposit $100, play for seven days and lose your money, and be left even at the end thanks to the cashback.
It’s nice to know you’re playing with some insurance, guarding against losses down the line.
On the other hand, this bonus is only actually valuable if you lose money. Contrast that with, say, a no-deposit bonus which gives you the chance to win real money for free and you’ll see how it might be less appealing to some players.
There’s no promo code required to trigger your cash back bonus. However, Virgin does sometimes release special offers via bonus code and if you use one when you sign up it will override the regular offer. So choose carefully
Anyone who has made a deposit with Virgin qualifies to play one Daily Free Game per day, Monday to Sunday. The games available are Tiki’s Catch of the Day or Search for the Phoenix.
You can win free spins every time you play, as well as collect special seashells or eggs which give you a better chance of winning in the future. There’s also a special Monthly Free Game, where you’re guaranteed to win at least some free spins.
This is a simple offer but a nice one. You’re not guaranteed to win every day, but there’s also a decent chance of getting some free spins, every single day that you log in.
Virgin has a straightforward refer a friend program, worth $10 in bonus cash to your friends and $50 in bonus cash to you. All they need to do is use your unique code in the registration screen when they sign up. This is a great and simple offer, with no downside for either you or anyone you get to sign up.
The actual offers vary, but Virgin regularly features real-life prizes and tickets to events you can win. During our review, for instance, you could win a helicopter tour of New York City worth $776. You get one entry to the draw every time you gambled $100 on the site.
We’re big fans of real-life promotions and prizes, and it’s fun seeing what Virgin comes up with. Who wouldn’t love a helicopter trip over NYC?!
Virgin has a VIP program that sounds great in theory. Once you qualify, you get a personal host for your account, birthday presents and holiday gifts, tickets to events and parties, and much more.
However, the catch is that it’s very difficult to attain VIP status – so much so that it’s basically out of reach for regular users. This is not one of those tiered programs where you can gradually accrue additional benefits, it’s much more tailored to the highest of high rollers.
It’s a shame, and I'd like to see the offer democratized somewhat.
The Virgin brand was formed back in 1970, when Richard Branson and Nick Powell founded a record shop, choosing the name as a reference to their lack of experience in the business. From those humble beginnings, the company grew exponentially over the next few decades, expanding into a diverse range of industries and activities, and was worth around $5 billion in 2014.
Virgin Games – a subsidiary concerned with casino gaming – was founded in 2003. In 2013 the company was acquired by Gamesys and still uses the Virgin brand under license from Branson. Their first online platform opened the following year in Atlantic City.
Today, Virgin operates under license from Tropicana Casino and Resort, at 2831 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ 08401.
The games menu at Virgin is on the smaller side, with around 250 in total. Not everyone likes choosing between a seemingly endless selection of games, and Virgin is a great choice for players who appreciate a smaller, less overwhelming range of options. Still, there are certainly some notable absences. I break it all down below.
There are just under 200 slot games at Virgin. The slots section is divided up nicely into different categories – most popular, Virgin exclusive, new releases, jackpots, Megaways – making it especially easy to browse. The games come from a small handful of software providers, including NetEnt and IGT.
You can play almost every game either for real money or in demo mode, which is a nice touch. There is a good mix of classic titles like Starburst or Blood Suckers, but also some fun less well-known games and Virgin exclusives, like Tiki Totems.
During my review, the highest progressive jackpot was hovering around the $500,000 mark.
Again, it’s not the biggest menu of table games I’ve ever seen, but the variety at Virgin is good. There are separate sections for roulette and blackjack, which make up the bulk of the table games. There are around a dozen different types of each.
Outside of that, you’ll find some video poker tables, craps, keno, and baccarat.
There’s also a separate bingo section, with new games starting every 30 minutes as well as daily jackpots.
Virgin doesn’t have any scratch card games for now.
Sadly, it doesn’t have any live dealer games either. This is certainly a weakness in the gaming catalog, and one I’d expect Virgin to address in the future.
Virgin doesn’t feature sports betting.
Virgin has an excellent app that you can download for iPhone and Android. You’ll find it in the Google Play Store and the App Store, where it’s received an excellent reaction from the user base. In the latter, it’s currently rated at 4.5/5 from around 4,000 reviews – extremely impressive for a casino app.
I'm a big fan of the Virgin mobile app. The smaller gaming menu makes a lot of sense when you’re playing on your phone. It feels naturally self-contained on the smaller screen, and arguably easier to navigate around than a mobile casino like Harrah’s for instance – which has upwards of 800 games.

Here’s the full list Virgin Casino payment methods:
Credit Cards (Visa / Mastercard)
ACH Transfer / Instant e-Check

The list of accepted payment methods at Virgin is on the smaller side. The most popular methods for depositing cash – like credit cards and bank transfers – are accepted, but some other common methods in NJ – like PayNearMe or PayPal – are not supported. On the other hand it's a casinos that accept e-checks, which isn't as common as I'd like. All in all, I'm satisfied with the options but they could be fleshed out a little more too. If you're looking for casinos that do support PayPal then have a look at the best online casinos that take PayPal.
Most deposit methods come with a $5 minimum deposit, which is just about the lowest in the state, and a $10,000 maximum.
The withdrawal times at Virgin are average, but they could easily be much faster. That’s because the pending period for withdrawals at Virgin is just 24 hours – much slower than average. However, since the main withdrawal method is via ACH Transfer, it may take another 3-5 days for your bank to process the request.
It’s frustrating because, if PayPal were an option, your money would be released instantly after 24 hours. At the moment, cash at the casino cage is the only instant option after your withdrawal request is processed. If you're looking for casinos with instant withdrawal options, then have a look at the fastest payout online casinos.
I'm giving Virgin a good score for its shorter pending period, and the $5 limit, but it’s certainly losing marks for missing a few essential methods.
Virgin’s help section is solid, with a deep menu of FAQs divided up into different categories. It’s easy to get in touch with support staff too.
There is a live chat support button on the bottom right of the help section, where you can chat with agents online in real-time.
Email support is available via the form you’ll find at the bottom of the page.
Or, you can call the toll-free support number at (844) 737-7616.
It’s a great range of options, and it’s a great score from us for customer support.
Virgin is one of the most recognizable brands in the world – in a variety of industries, not just gambling. It’s always a good sign to play at sites that have reputations to uphold, built up over many years and with a long record of professionalism and high performance. That describes Virgin pretty well.
From a technical standpoint, the casino more than complies with everything I need to see to have confidence in a site. Password account and security is protected by encryption technology, which you can read about in the Privacy Policy. The software providers used by Virgin have their games tested regularly for fairness and use Random Number Generators to ensure every spin is fair.
Virgin is licensed by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, as part of an agreement with the Tropicana in Atlantic City. This means that the state regulates all activity on Virgin, and consumers are protected from fraud or other CC
I always include some pointers to improve on with every review. Here’s what I came up with for Virgin.
A smaller menu of games isn’t necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but it’s true that my rule of thumb is the more the better. With around 250 games, Virgin is below average in New Jersey. It also includes some significant omissions, specifically live dealer games. This is definitely an area Virgin could develop some more.
I’d also love to see a wider range of payment methods for both deposits and withdrawals. The 24 withdrawal period is great, but it’s let down by a lack of fast withdrawal technologies. Let’s start with adding PayPal.
Virgin is a smaller casino, but an impressive one. It’s a great choice for anyone who isn’t interested in sifting through thousands of games, and instead is looking for a focused selection of slots and table games.
I like the Daily Free Games a lot, and while a money-back welcome bonus might not sound the most glamorous, it’s actually a very efficient way to save some money up front. The ability to win real-life prizes, like event tickets or trips, is a great addition.
I like the software in general, especially the mobile app. Customer support is excellent, and site security is totally solid.
