Players from five countries have won gold in tennis at the Summer Games (Men’s singles) in the last six Olympics. Spain’s Carlos Alcatraz is the betting favorite heading into the Games, but bettors may not want to overlook Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic certainly made a big statement with a win over another legend, Spain’s Rafael Nadal (who won gold in 2008). But the Games have just begun, and there is a lot of tennis still to come.

Tennis has had an unusual history at the Summer Olympics. It began as one of the initial events when the modern era of the Games started in 1896 but got dropped following the 1924 Games. It was brought back in 1988 and has become one of the most respected events by tennis players worldwide.

So, many of the best players in the world have come to Paris hoping to win Olympic Gold. With two rounds of competition in the books, let’s take a look at the odds of winning gold in men’s singles via Caesars Sportsbook.

Best Bets for Men's Tennis Olympics 2024

In a single-elimination tournament, there is no room for mistakes. Have a bad day or face someone enjoying the best day of their lives, and you could find yourself heading back to the Olympic Village to get ready to play tourists since you're done.

So, who should you bet on going forward? Do you go with the young hotshots? The aging veteran? The highest-ranked player according to the official ATP rankings? Or maybe an unranked, relatively unknown underdog since they have won Olympic gold in the past.

We took a hard look at the remaining players, how they have played so far, and how well they have performed this season to come up with a few players we consider solid bets to win the gold medal in the end:

Carlos Alcatraz (-150) at Caesars Sportsbook

Players always want to be playing their best when entering a tournament as prestigious as the Summer Olympic Games. With the year he is having, it is safe to say that Alcatraz is doing just that. He has two Grand Slam titles to his name this year, including the French Open.

Incidentally, the French Open occurs at Roland Garros, where the men's Olympic singles matches are being played.

He has defeated some of the best players in tennis this season, including the No. 1 ranked Jannik Sinner, the defending gold medalist Alexander Zverev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Alcatraz had no problem handling his first two opponents in the tournament, Tallon Griekspoor and Hady Habib.

He'll face Roman Safiullin in the third round on July 31.

Novak Djokovic (+200) at Caesars Sportsbook

He is not getting any younger, but Djokovic is still one of the best men's tennis players in the world (he is currently No. 2 in the ATP rankings). His history of excellence made him one of the top contenders entering the Games.

If there was any doubt he could win it all, he put that to rest by taking care of Rafael Nadal, who has won a record 14 French Open titles in the second round Tuesday. Nadal won gold at the Beijing Summer Olympic Games.

Djokovic will be back in action Wednesday when he faces Dominik Koepfer.

Dark Horse: Casper Ruud (+1400) at Caesars Sportsbook

Ruud is a top-ten player, has a history of success at Roland Garros, and has played well on clay surfaces this year (21-5; 6-2 vs. top-20 opponents). He defeated Taro Daniel in the first round and Andrea Vavassori in the second round.

If he can make it past Francisco Cerundolo in the third round, bettors may want to take a flyer on him before his odds get much shorter.

Men's Tennis Paris Olympics, Singles: My Pick

Novak Djokovic (+200) at Caesars Sportsbook

You can't go wrong with any of the players at the top of betting boards. They are all considered to be the best in the world, guys capable of going on the kind of run you need to win a gold medal at the Summer Olympics.

But at this stage, we recommend Novak Djokovic. His age may work against him, but it could also give him an edge. While guys like Alcatraz will be back when the Summer Games descend on Los Angeles in 2028, Djokovic knows this is probably his final shot.

He is one of the best players in the world, and he's on a mission to add the one thing missing from his trophy cabinet: Olympic gold.
