On Saturday New Zealand and U.S.A. will clash in their second match of the 2024 Paris Olympics in the mens tournament in Group A. The weekend fixture will take place at Stade Vélodrome in Marseille. Kick-off is set for 1 PM ET.
New Zealand got off to a splendid start grabbing all three points against Guinea winning 2-1. A win on Saturday would mark back-to-back appearances in the knockout stage for the Kiwis as they got bounced out in the 2020 Tokyo games in the quarterfinals. Ben Waine registered the winning goal for New Zealand in the 76th minute.
Meanwhile, U.S.A. were soundly defeated in their opening fixture against France. The Yanks were crushed 3-0 by hosts who started slowly but poured on the pressure as the match progressed. The last Men’s Olympics appearance for the U.S. was when they qualified for the Olympics at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Here, we will break down the betting odds and share our favourite picks for New Zealand vs. U.S.A.
The books have pegged the United States to secure the victory on Saturday, listed at -175 on the moneyline. The Kiwis are heavily priced at +475 to pull off the upset while both teams share the points, the draw is pinned at +290.

The MVP for the Kiwis against Guinea was the man between the sticks, Alex Paulsen. The 22-year-old completed seven saves on eight shot attempts. In June the keeper joined Bournemouth transferring from the Wellington Phoenix who play their top-flight soccer in the A-League in Australia and New Zealand. In the 2023-24 campaign, Paulsen collected 11 clean sheets in 27 starts.
One of the more experienced U23 players on this New Zealand roster is Matthew Garbett. The central midfielder had a golden opportunity to cap off a multi-goal performance but he was denied on his penalty kick attempt. The central midfielder went 90 percent in accurate passes going 26-for-29.
Despite a poor scoreline for the country, there were a few bright spots on the pitch for the USMNT, one of which was the play of Kevin Paredes. The 21-year-old Wolfsburg product appeared in 76 minutes of action creating the most chances in the match with four. He also picked up a yellow card in the 37th minute for a bad foul. With Wolfsburg in the previous campaign, Paredes found the back of the net three times in 29 showings.
It was a rough day in the office for Striker Duncan McGuire against France. The 23-year-old capped off his 86-minute display by only registering one shot which missed the target. The United States will need his lethal striking abilities to come through in a must-win scenario. With 59 career games under his belt with Orlando City of MLS, he has bagged a total of 23 goals.
If the USMNT want to progress to the next phase and contend for a medal, this fixture against the Kiwis can’t be finished with less than maximum points for the Yanks. This is a talented American side with a plethora of its roster playing in MLS or in highly competitive leagues across Europe. The Americans will want to show their previous match was a one-off against a stacked hosting nation side. Look for the United States to bounce back and collect their first in the 2024 Paris games.
