United States Preview

The United States continues its path through the Olympic tournament with minimal challenge. Team USA drew the lowest seed in Brazil's quarterfinals as the top-ranked seed after the Group Phase. After a 35-point victory, the star-studded United States have their eyes on claiming their second victory of the tournament over Serbia when they face off in the semifinals.

In their quarterfinal match against Brazil, Team USA faced little resistance en route to victory. Team USA found their lead and never relinquished it by shooting a blistering 57.7% from the field and holding the sharpshooting Brazil to just 32.4% from three. LeBron James stood out as the orchestrator of  Team USA’s offense, posting 12 points, nine assists, and three steals in their victory.

The United States will feel confident going into its semifinal against Serbia, a team it defeated easily in the Group Phase. Team USA suffocated Serbia’s perimeter offense in their last matchup, leaving their opponents desperate for production outside of star men Jokic and Bogdanovic. If Team USA can limit its turnovers and second-chance points, it will book its ticket to the gold medal final.

Serbia Preview

Serbia hasn't been at its best throughout the 2024 Paris Olympics. While their quality is evident, the Serbian role players must be more consistent around Nikola Jokic to have a chance at gold. However, in their last game, a win over Australia, Serbia gritted its teeth to win its place in the semifinals and complete the greatest comeback in Olympic history.

Playing to a raucous crowd of over 12,000 in Paris' Accor Arena, Serbia earned victory after going down by as many as 24 points against Australia. It took a monstrous second-half effort to force overtime, where Serbia outscored the Boomers 13-8 to book their rematch against the United States. As expected, Nikola Jokic led the way with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists on the night.

Serbia has the opportunity to redeem itself after a 26-point loss to the United States in their first match of the tournament. They couldn't limit Team USA on the glass in that game, losing the rebounding battle 32-39 while allowing 18 three-pointers. To find victory against the United States, Serbia can't afford another slow start, and even then, it may not be enough for them to succeed.
