Despite their struggles in the tournament's opening round, Brazil fought their way into the knockout phase by qualifying as one of the top two third-place teams. They now face another uphill battle, taking on the gold medal favorites Team USA in their quarterfinal match. Brazil will try to replicate the quality shown in their last game, a blowout victory against Japan.
Brazil overcame Japan by 18 points in their last match to qualify for the quarterfinals. They shot 52.1% from the field, won the rebounding battle by 15, and hit 17 threes with 60.7% efficiency. Forward Bruno Caboclo was the standout player on the night, putting up 33 points, 17 rebounds, and four made threes on 68.4% shooting from the field.
When Brazil takes on Team USA on Tuesday, they must match the scoring pace. Despite hitting 17 threes in their last game, Brazil is tenth in overall scoring this tournament. Coming up against a vastly superior perimeter defense, Brazil will need to find success inside the arc as much as they do beyond it. It is a difficult task when all-world-level defenders like Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid will oppose them.

As expected, the United States cruised into the quarterfinals after going undefeated through the group phase. As the top-ranked team after the group phase, the United States was matched up with the tournament’s lowest-seeded team - Brazil. Despite a 21-point win, expect Team USA to tighten up the rotation in the knockout rounds.
In their previous match, a win over Puerto Rico, the United States overcame a losing first quarter to find victory. It’s a testament to their depth and production, as Team USA scored 104 points on 49.4% shooting despite going just 9/32 from three-point range. Anthony Edwards starred in the match, posting 26 points and three threes on 11/15 shooting off the bench.
When Team USA takes on Brazil, they’re expected to have another straightforward path to victory. They will focus on Brazil’s three-point shooting, considering they are first in three-point efficiency in the tournament. Team USA should be able to focus on their perimeter defense, considering Brazil is ranked tenth in scoring inside the arc.
