Best NHL Prop Bets Today: Flyers Offense to Continue to Struggle

After all 32 teams participated in the Frozen Frenzy on Tuesday night, Wednesday’s slate features only one game with the Philadelphia Flyers battling it out against the Washington Capitals. The Capitals beat the Flyers 4-1 on Tuesday, now getting the opportunity to make it two in a row as their defense continues to take advantage of one of the worst offenses in the league.

With Washington’s defense ranking top-5 in Expected Goals Against in All Situations, the Flyers should continue to struggle with generating offensive production as the Capitals smother their shots towards the net. When looking to make a wager on the NHL, FanDuel Sportsbook has been the front runner for the league as they offer a wide range of markets for their users to choose from and at very favorable odds.

If you have not signed up yet with FanDuel sportsbook and are looking to get in on the action, you can claim $300 in bonus bets by creating an account and winning your first bet of at least $5. Philadelphia Flyers vs. Washington Capitals - Prop Bets (7:30 PM, EST)

Philadelphia Flyers Under 3 Total Goals (-140) at BetMGM

After entering the year projected to improve on offense with the arrival of Calder Memorial Trophy contender Matvei Michkov, the Philadelphia Flyers have yet to take a step forward with their production as they currently rank 29th overall in Expected Goals For in All Situations and 31st in 5-on-5 Play. Michkov has managed to make an immediate impact as he has generated five points on two goals and three assists, yet his surrounding cast of playmakers is still severely underwhelming.

On the other side of the ice, the Washington Capitals have been one of the bigger surprises early in the season as they are in third place in the Metropolitan division standings while ranking above league average in both Expected Goals For and Expected Goals Against. Their defense has especially been impressive as they currently rank fifth overall in Expected Goals Against in All Situations with an Expected Goal mark of 2.71 per Game.

Against Washington’s surging defense, the Flyers anemic offense may struggle to score for the second night in a row after being held to just one total goal on Tuesday night against the Capitals. Their low total was not a fluke result either as the Flyers finished the contest with an Expected Goal of 1.75. Other than their forward Travis Konecny who generated an Expected Goal of 0.5, no one on the Flyers finished with a mark higher than 0.33.

Tom Wilson Anytime Goalscorer (+240) at FanDuel

To help compliment their defense, the Capitals offense has been one of the more productive units in the league as they currently rank 10th overall in Expected Goals For in All Situations and are averaging four goals per game in five games played. Improvement on offense was imminent after spending the offseason adding talent at forward to help free up space for Alex Ovechkin.

While a majority of the new pieces have yet to make an impact, veteran forward Tom Wilson has been one of the main sources of offensive production for the Capitals as he has generated six points on five goals and one assist so far this season. In their five games, Wilson also leads the team in Expected Goals while averaging over three Shots on Goal per Game. After a relatively quiet performance against the Flyers on Tuesday, expect Wilson to bounce back by netting his sixth goal of the year.
