While the NHL regular season has technically already started with the New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres playing in a doubleheader in the NHL’s Global Series, Tuesday signals the start for the rest of the league with non-stop action until the All-Star break. Three games are set to be played on primetime throughout the day, kicking things off with the new-look Seattle Kraken against the St. Louis Blues and the reigning Stanley Cup champions facing off against the Boston Bruins.
With uncertainty looming over multiple defenses, Tuesday’s slate may feature an uptick in offensive production as back lines struggle to gel together. That potentially shades values towards offensive-related player props, as well as creating an opportunity to cash a juicy first goal scorer prop in the first game of the day.
As for where to wager on NHL player props, Caesars Sportsbook has been the top choice for the league as they offer a wide range of markets for their users to choose from. After finishing last year ranked near dead last in Expected Goals For in All Situations, the Seattle Kraken were in desperate need of adding more firepower without sacrificing too much of their defensive production. That led to the Kraken making one of the bigger moves this offseason, signing former Florida Panther defenseman Brandon Montour to a seven-year contract to help bolster their back line's offensive production while also giving them a stout defender.
With the Kraken set to open up their season against the St. Louis Blues, Montour has an opportunity to make his presence known from the opening puck drop as the Blues defense is expected to struggle once again. Smothering opposing shots on goal was a struggle for the Blues last season, finishing the year ranked near the bottom of the board in Expected Goals Against in 5-on-5 Play.

On top of betting Montour to clear the over on his Shots on Goal prop, let’s also have a little fun with the first game of the regular season by taking a flier on Montour to be the first goal scorer. Montour resides in the offensive zone at one of the heaviest rates of all defensemen, putting him in an active position to score against one of the worst defenses in the league.

Turning our attention towards the next game of the slate, the Boston Bruins look to get their revenge on the reigning Stanley Cup champions after the Florida Panthers beat the Bruins 4-2 in the second round of the playoffs. Heading into Tuesday, the Bruins are set to roll out their newly acquired goalie Joonas Korpisalo while Vezina Trophy contender Jeremy Swayman is fresh off of a contract holdout.
Korpisalo had an abysmal 2024 campaign with the Ottawa Senators, finishing the year ranked in the bottom half of the board for starting goalies in Save Percentage and Average Goals Against per Game. Luckily for Korpisalo, the Bruins defense will be an upgrade in defensive production and will help lessen the quality of opposing shots on goal to help increase the chances of Korpisalo making the save. With the Panthers projected to maintain their high marks on offense, expect a healthy amount of shots to be sent at Korpisalo with a high chance of them being walled off due to the Bruins coverage.

While the Panthers bring back a majority of their front line, their defense will be integrating some new faces after losing Brandon Montour to the Seattle Kraken in the offseason. With their chemistry taking a hit, regression looms large over the Panthers' defense after finishing last year ranked top-5 in Expected Goals Against in All Situations.
As for who may benefit the most from the Panthers' regression, the Bruins Brad Marchand is expected to receive a heavier workload early in their year as Boston still tries to figure out who to pair along with him and Charlie Coyle in their second line. Until someone secures the job, Marchand may have to take it upon himself to maintain their aggressiveness and attack the net at a higher rate.
