Kicking off Friday’s busy slate of NHL matchups is the game set between the Detroit Red Wings visiting the Boston Bruins. This game will be the third matchup already this season between the two Atlantic divisional rivals as the series is split.
The Bruins possess the top-ranked scoring defense (2.11 goals allowed per game) in the league. The Red Wings are going to need to bring their best performance to potentially take down their rival for a potential second time this season.
Detroit has two great stars in Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Larkin, but they could use support from forward J.T. Compher, who has accounted for 14 points this season. Compher has accounted for a goal or an assist in six of the last seven games he has played.
In the Red Wings 5-4 win over the Bruins at home on November 4th, Compher accounting for two assists. In the three games earlier he played, he attempted three shots at the goal but didn't account for a single goal or assist. He will look to continue to make up for that performance with another solid outing against the heavily favored Bruins.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are having a standout season through their first 17 games. While center Auston Matthews has been a huge reason why the Maple Leafs are a serious Stanley Cup Finals contender, much of the consistency and the success has come from forward William Nylander.
Through 17 games, Nylander has accounted for a team-high 27 points and a team-high 15 assists while also accounting for 12 goals. He is only two goals short of the team leader in Matthews. Nylander has accounted for a point in each of the 17 games played this season. He has also accounted for two or more points in four of the last five games played.
On Friday, the Maple Leafs have an early road game against Eastern Conference rival Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks are ranked 27th in the league in goals allowed per game (3.71). The Maple Leafs and Nylander have a great chance to continue another dominating run.
The Colorado Avalanche has a great chance to get back their momentum as they go on the road to take on the Minnesota Wild as surprisingly small favorites, according to DraftKings. The three stars of the Avalanche in Cale Maker, Mikko Rantanen, and Nathan MacKinnon are clicking on all cylinders.
Minnesota has a defense that is ranked 30th in the league in goals allowed per game (4.0). Their main concern will be to try and suppress the three stars of the avalanche on Friday night. This will open up opportunities for other players for Colorado such as defender Devon Toews to account for a significant performance.
Toews has accounted for a goal or an assist in four of the last five games for Colorado. He has accounted for six points in the last five games. Colorado looks for Toews to be an impactful player once again during the late games of November.
