Kicking off the first game of Wednesday’s NHL slate is the Metropolitan Divisional matchup between the Philadelphia Flyers versus the Carolina Hurricanes. Both the Flyers and the Hurricanes have a roster full of key players that help the offense get on the board. Carolina and Philadelphia each have six players who have accounted for 10 points this season.
While the Hurricanes have a better offense, the Flyers have a more efficient defense. The Hurricanes’ defense ranks 18th in the league in goals allowed per game by allowing an average of 3.27.
One player for the Flyers that has made a significant difference since the start of the season is forward Cam Atkinson. Through 15 games this season, Atkinson has accounted for 12 points, with eight of them being goals and four being assists. Atkinson, along with several other players for Philadelphia, has a great chance to get on the board against the lenient defense of the Hurricanes.

The Seattle Kraken and the Edmonton Oilers are two of the most disappointing teams through this early portion of the season. The biggest reason for their terrible starts to the season is the inefficiencies of both teams on the defensive side of the ice.
Edmonton is currently on a two-game win streak and has won its first game under interim head coach Kris Knoblauch. The Oilers have a 4-1 win against the Kraken and the New York Islanders. In each of these games, not only has the defense become a more efficient unit, but the offense has also played more efficiently.
One player for the Oilers stepping up is forward Evander Kane, who has accounted for four points in the last four games. He accounted for two assists in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Seattle.

One of the biggest matchups of the night is the Western Conference matchup between the Anaheim Ducks and the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche have been up and down this season, as they have lost two of the last three games and are 3-3 in the last six games. They are coming off a 5-1 win on the road versus the Seattle Kraken.
The Avalanche will need members of their big three to make a significant contribution against the Ducks, who are tied for the tenth-best scoring defense in the league (2.87). This is a game where forward Mikko Rantanen could have a huge production on the ice.
Rantanen has accounted for more than one point in two of the last four games. He is coming off a two-point game where he accounted for a goal and an assist in the 5-1 win over the Kraken. In the 6-3 win over the New Jersey Devils, Rantanen accounted for three points, with two of them being goals and one being an assist.
