One of the two opening games this Monday night in the Columbus Blue Jackets (4-5-2) at the Florida Panthers (5-4-1) is the most game with the largest line. The Panthers come into this game with the most efficient offense and defense units on the ice. The Blue Jackets, however, are not far from the Panthers.
Offensively, the Blue Jackets have five players who have accounted for six or more points this season. Defender Ivan Provorov leads the team in points accounted for with eight points. All of them have been assists this season as he is a player that doesn't attempt many shots at the goal. He has accounted for 12 shots at the goal in 11 games.
With the Panthers having a solid defense (2.8 goals allowed per game), the Blue Jackets will need to find ways to create potential scoring opportunities. Provorov can be the ice general and set up shots for his teammates.
The biggest game of the night is set to be a huge defensive battle between the Boston Bruins (9-1-1) at the Dallas Stars (7-2-1), who rank in the top five in goals allowed per game. There isn't going to be much opportunity for either team to account for points.
Stars left wing Jamie Benn has been one of the most consistent players on the offensive side of the ice this season. He isn't an explosive scorer or dynamic playmaker, but he finds a way to establish himself offensively by getting in great positions for a score or setting up shots for his teammates.
In the last three games, Benn has accounted for three points, with two of them being assists. He has accounted for nine points this season, with six being assists.
This is one of the riskiest bets to make as the Bruins possess the top-ranked defense by allowing only 1.91 goals per game.
The Edmonton Oilers (2-7-1) come into this game as their favorites over the Vancouver Canucks (8-2-1), according to DraftKings. That is assuming the Oilers are going to find their rhythm after a horrible start to the season.
The Canucks, on the other hand, are a team that have found their rhythm, especially on the opposite side of the ice. The Canucks are coming into this game with the top-ranked scoring offense in the league (4.36). One of the biggest reasons is the stellar passing ability of center Elias Pettersson, who leads the league in total points accounted for (20) and ranks second in assists accounted for (14).
The Oilers possess the third-worst scoring defense in the league in goals allowed per game (4.10). There have been no signs of life for the Oilers while the Canucks are firing on all cylinders. Pettersson has another chance to have a great game on Monday. The Canucks could easily win their third game over Edmonton this season.
