The Florida Panthers may have entered the Conference Finals as the Stanley Cup favorite, but they are now down 1-2 in their series against the New York Rangers with a real chance of being on the brink of elimination. They have been outplayed in two of the three games in Expected Goals and now need to round back into form in a pinch in order to tie up the series. That starts with their defense, especially from Bobrovsky who has played as one of the better goalies in the league. For a more in depth breakdown of the game, take a look at our NHL Best Bets for game four.

Correlating our first NHL player prop best bets with our Eastern Conference Finals game four best bet, we target the theme of defense rounding back into form by taking the under on Sergei Bobrovsky’s Goals Against prop. While the score in game three ended 5-4 in favor of the Rangers, the Expected Goal scoreboard ended with the Panthers winning 3.81-1.69. Heartbreak for Florida fans, but potential value created for us bettors in game four.
Most of the blame for the high amount of goals against the Panthers can be pointed towards their defense, but some of it has to be pointed towards Bobrovsky who severely underwhelmed in game three. Bobrovsky has been one of the better goalies over the course of the season and has maintained a high level of production through the NHL Playoffs with a Save Percentage of .903 and Goals Against per Game Average of 2.31.
With game three most likely being an anomaly in the series, expect defense to round back into form. That starts with Bobrovsky walling off the Rangers low quality shots, limiting the scoring and keeping the game tight. Three of the five Rangers goals clocked in an Expected Goal of .10 or less, meaning that the Rangers lucked into early goals which drastically changed the pace of play. With Bobrovsky poised to round back into form, expect limited early scoring which plays towards his under on this prop.
Bet on Sergei Bobrovsky at DraftKings
It may seem counterintuitive to take a goal scoring prop in a game that should feature a higher level of defensive play, but it’s hard to ignore how well Carter Verhaeghe has been putting himself in favorable scoring positions in this series. Verhaeghe ended game one with a Expected Goal of 0.43 and one goal scored, game two with an Expected Goal of 0.45 and one goal scored, and game three with an Expected Goal of 0.83.
That is a high level of consistency in terms of his shot quality through three games, most likely being the leading choice to find the back of the net again in game four. The Panthers have a massive advantage in 5-on-5 play, let alone receiving an uptick in quality of shots with Verhaeghe leading the charge in power play situations. Verhaeghe leads the team with eight goals scored since the start of the playoffs and will continue to be one of their leading sources of offensive production should they want to tie up the series.
