Best NHL Prop Bets Today: Last Opportunity to Fade Stuart Skinner

Best NHL Prop Bets 2024 06 21 Stuart Skinner

With momentum on their side, the Oilers offense continued to dominate by getting out to a quick 3-0 lead. Things got dicey shortly after as the Panthers offense finally woke up in an effort to tie it back up, but it was too little too late as the Oilers skated away with a 5-3 victory in game five of the Stanley Cup Finals. Should the Panthers want to avoid a high stakes game seven, then their offense will need to continue to relentlessly attack the lowly Stuart Skinner as we saw in periods two and three in game five.

Florida Panthers vs. Edmonton Oilers - Game 6 Prop Bets (8:00 PM, EST)

Stuart Skinner Over 2.5 Goals Against (-135) at BetMGM

Even in a game where Stuart Skinner was playing well above his baseline level of play in the first period, we still managed to cash this over as he eventually crumbled against the Panthers uptick in offensive intensity. Fading Skinner has been a common theme throughout the playoffs as he continues to let in low quality Shots on Goal at an alarmingly bad rate. Two of the three Panthers goals in game five clocked in an Expected Goal of 0.13 and 0.11.

Heading into game six, we should see more of the Panthers offensive onslaught as they can ill-afford to get off to a slow start again. When behind on the scoreboard, that forces them to pick up their pace and play right into the Oilers hands. That is not the Panthers style of play as they have backed their high marks in Expected Goals For by using their defense to shut down opposing offenses with their physicality while keeping the puck in their offensive zone instead of skating back and forth in transition.

Should the Panthers offense get back to their roots and find the same level of success that they found in the second and third period in game five, then Stuart Skinner will be under heavy duress. That gives us a good chance at cashing this over once again as Skinner continues to underwhelm in net. Skinner enters game six of the Stanley Cup Finals with a Save Percentage of .898 and a Goals Against per Game average of 2.54.

Zach Hyman Anytime Goalscorer (+120) at BetMGM

It has been a relatively quiet series for Zach Hyman before game five, entering the contest with just two points on two assists and no goals scored. He managed to get back on track in the scoring department by finding the back of the net in game five, as well as finding his name back on top of the board in Expected Goals for the Oilers offense.

Outside of the Stanley Cup Finals, Hyman has been an offensive machine as he routinely generated high quality scoring chances by pacing the rest of the team in Expected Goals For. It was only a matter of time before positive regression swung back towards his way as he is a focal point of the Oilers offense. Expect Hyman to continue to put himself in scoring positions as we saw with his Expected Goal of 0.93 in game five, filling the gaps in coverage opposite of McDavid and rifling off high quality Shots on Goal towards a regressing Sergei Bobrovsky.
