The Dallas Stars and the Florida Panthers are set for a brutal matchup this Wednesday night. The Stars come into this game with the more effective offense ranking seventh in the league in goals per game (3.39). The Panthers' defense is ranked fourth in the league in goals allowed per game (2.59).
This game is going to force the Stars to play a more aggressive offense. They have been in an offensive slump as well within the last six games. They only scored more than three games twice in the last six games. Dallas is coming off a 4-0 loss at the Tampa Bay Lightning last Monday.
Stars center Roope Hintz is among the players for Dallas that is struggling. He hasn't been able to account for a goal or an assist in three of the last five games. Hintz might see his struggles continue against the elite defense of the Panthers.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are desperate to find some momentum in this frustrating up-and-down season. They have seen more production from some of their stars in forward Jake Guentzel and center Sidney Crosby. Now they are hoping to see more impact from center Evgeni Malkin.
The Penguins go on the road to take on the also struggling Tampa Bay Lightning to stop a two-game losing streak. The Lightning possess the fifth-worst scoring defense in the league as they allow an average of 3.58 goals per game.
This game should be a great opportunity for Malkin and other key players to re-establish that rhythm they had in the 4-2 win at the Lightning on November 30. He has accounted for a goal or an assist in three of the last four games for Pittsburgh, but he has been quiet through the late portion of November. For the Penguins to be successful in this game, Malkin needs to help contribute to the scoreboard.
The final game of the night is set to be a rematch of Monday night's matchup between the Vegas Golden Knights versus the St. Louis Blues. The Blues were able to defeat the Golden Knights 2-1 and overtime on the road against a Vegas team that had accounted for two consecutive wins.
While Saint Louis is not exactly the established powerhouse that can contain Vegas consistently, they play them well and look to do the same on Wednesday night, this time in their own stadium.
St. Louis is projected to start Jordan Binnington at goalie on Wednesday night. Binnington is 14th in the league in save percentage this season (91.4%).
The Golden Knights, outside of the two recent wins over Vancouver and Washington, have been inconsistent on the offensive side of the ice for several weeks now. Vegas star center William Karlsson is among the players that have struggled within the past few weeks as he hasn’t accounted for a goal or an assist in five of the last eight games. If the Blues and Binnington bring their intensity, they could limit the productivity of Karlsson, once again.
