One of the top games of the night in the NHL it's set as the Dallas Stars go on the road to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Stars come into this game with a highly efficient defense wow the Lightning are coming in with an offense that is trying to regain its ground after starting incredibly strong in the season.
The Lightning have a tough task on Monday to score against an incredibly efficient defense in the Stars. They will have to rely on their star forward Nikita Kucherov, the league’s top offensive player. Kucherov has accounted league-high 40 points, 15 goals and 25 assists this season.
The Lighting have other players who can score and set up multiple scoring opportunities, Kucherov has been the most impactful and consistent this season. He is going to be the player that will help re-establish the Lightning’s highly efficient offense to its stage earlier in the season.
There hasn't been a lot of stability with the Pittsburgh Penguins within the past few weeks. The talent on the team appears to be too much for head coach Mike Sullivan to contain. Now comes the point where the Penguins need more contributions from their star players to keep the season's playoff hopes alive.
On Monday, Pittsburgh will travel to take on their insane rival in the Philadelphia Flyers. This past Saturday in the 4-3 shootout home loss to the Flyers, forward Jake Guentzel scored two goals in the game.
The Flyers possess the 11th ranked scoring defense in the league allowing an average of 2.88 goals per game. Guentzel has accounted for a team-high 27 points for Pittsburgh. While there are more established veterans on the team, Guentzel is in his prime and will need to be utilized more.
The Vegas Golden Knights have had an up-and-down set of games in late November leading up to December. Before the last two wins for the Golden Knights, they were only able to win only three of their last 11 games. During that time, the defense of the Golden Knights struggled tremendously.
Vegas won 4-1 against a great Vancouver Canucks team in a prime game at home and then a Washington Capitals team, who has the second-worst scoring offense in the league.
The Blues have fought their way to an overall record of 12-10-1 and have looked dominant in wins. Forward Pavel Buchnevich has accounted for multiple points in three of the last five games for the Blues. In 21 games this season, Buchnevich has scored 18 points, the second-most on the team, a team-high eight goals and 10 assists.
The Blues will have the availability to catch the Golden Knights off balance as they have not gotten their rhythm just yet.
