The first round of the 2024 NHL playoffs is starting to take shape. Some of the best teams in the league are seeing great performances from their star players already. The first game matchup between the New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals went as expected. The Rangers can account for a big win without needing their star players to account for a huge performance.
New York doesn't need to have a similar performance to beat the Capitals again on Tuesday night. To keep the Rangers fresh for this series and potentially moving forward, look for them to rely on more production on their more established players like defenseman Adam Fox.
Players like Fox kept their foot on the gas defensively and played conservatively offensively. This is a game where the Capitals might try to be more aggressive, which should open up players like Fox for more solid passing schemes.
Fox finished the regular season accounting for eight points, with six of them being assists, in the final eight games played. He has also played well in the four games played against the Capitals in the regular season.

The first-round match-up between the Colorado Avalanche versus the Winnipeg Jets has been not so surprising considering the games played the season between the two teams already. On Sunday, the Jets defeated the Avalanche with a 7-6 score at home. The defense of the Avalanche was absolutely atrocious.
The Jets have a chance to do this again as they have scored 14 points in the last two games, including this playoff game. On Tuesday, Winnipeg will look to repeat the same measure.
One way they can do this is to continue their highly efficient passing offense led by forward Kyle Connor. He accounted for two goals and one assist in Sunday night's matchup. In the two games played against the Avalanche this season, Connor has accounted for four total points with two being assists.
He also had a great end to the regular season as he accounted for 11 total points with seven being assists in the final seven games. He is a player who has shown he can lead in offense as efficiently as the Jets. If there is one player who can help get Winnipeg to a two-game lead and a series over a dangerous Avalanche team, it will be Connor and his passing abilities.
