This Thursday night could be a night to remember for the Minnesota Wild (6-10-4) and their disappointed fans that they were ready to call it a season. The Wild will go on the road to take their Central Divisional rivals in the Nashville Predators (11-10). This game is a chance for either team to lift themselves higher in the standings after a tough start to the season.
At one point early in the 2023-2024 NHL Season, the Wild accounted for an overall record of 3-2-1 to start. Minnesota would soon show how much of a disaster they were on the defensive side of the ice by losing 11 of the next 13 games. After the 4-1 road loss to the Detroit Red Wings on November 26 to make it seven consecutive losses, the Wild fired head coach Dean Evason and assistant coach Bob Woods. In the first game under new head coach John Hynes, Minnesota defeated the St. Louis Blues at home 3-1.
The new-look Wild team will attempt to knock off the Predators on the road with a six-game winning streak. Nashville's offense has been clicking as they have scored at least three goals in their last nine games.
It doesn't help the Wild that they possess the second-worst defense in the league. They allow an average of 3.8 goals per game behind bad goalie and defender play.
Despite the strong start for Hynes’ team against the Blues, the Predators are a much better team.

One of the most interesting matchups going into Thursday's slate of NHL games is the all-Canadien matchup between the Edmonton Oilers (8-12-1) going on the road to take on the Winnipeg Jets (12-7-2). Throughout the season, the Oilers have been the most disappointing team in the league while the Jets have started strong. Going into tonight's game, it is the Oilers that are the favorites.
The Oilers started the season as the most disappointing team in the league with an overall record of 2-9-1. After the 4-1 road win over the Seattle Kraken, the Oilers fired Jay Woolcroft as head coach. Interim head coach Kris Knoblauch has more stability for the Oilers in a short amount of time. Knoblauch is 5-3 as the head coach of the Oilers.
The Jets didn’t start the season hot, but after a 4-4-2 record, they managed to find a rhythm. Winnipeg is 8-3 in their last 11 games, but they are on a two-game losing streak.
This game will be the second meeting this season between the Oilers and the Jets. The Jets defeated the Oilers 3-2 on the road on October 21. Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck accounted for 38 saves.
The Jets have a chance to score consistently against the Oilers, who have given up an average of 3.71 goals per game (third-worst in the league). Even in the Knoblauch era, the Oilers are allowing an average of 3.37 goals per game.
The Jets are averaging 3.38 goals per game this season, but more importantly, they are trying to shed a two-game losing streak.

One of the final games of the night is set to be a huge one not only in the Pacific division but in the entire Western Conference. The struggling Vegas Golden Knights (14-5-4) are set to go on the road to take on their rivals in the Vancouver Canucks (15-7-1). This is a game that could easily place the Canucks in first place in an incredibly tough division and put the Golden Knights even more in a slump.
Vegas started the 2023-2024 NHL Season as the hottest team in the league as the Golden Knights started with an overall record of 11-0-1. Their first regular season loss was on November 5th at the Anaheim Ducks with a 4-2 score. The Golden Knights Have been only able to win three of the last 10 games since that loss to the Ducks. Vegas has been outscored 9-5 in their last three consecutive losses.
The Canucks are on a slight slump themselves after starting the season with a 12-3-1 overall record. The Canucks have only won three of the last seven games, with incredibly tough divisional rule losses to Calgary, Seattle and San Jose. Vancouver is coming off a 3-1 win at home over Anaheim this past Tuesday.
The Canucks possess one of the top scoring offenses in the league as they average 3.96 goals per game. While the Golden Knights possess the third-ranked scoring defense (2.44 goals allowed per game), the Canucks quickly follow them by only allowing an average of 2.48 goals per game.
