Kicking off a new month of the 2023-2024 NHL Season is the matchup between the Buffalo Sabres (4-5) and the Philadelphia Flyers (4-4-1).
The Sabres have started the season with some tough losses. They have, however, won two of the three games, including a huge 4-0 win at home against the Colorado Avalanche. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen accounted for his first career shutout with 26 saves.
The Flyers started the season by winning three of their first four games. Following those sets of games, the Flyers lost four of their last five games. They are coming off a tough 3-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Flyers have been up and down defensively despite allowing an average of 3.11 goals per game. The Flyers allowed three goals in the loss to the Hurricanes in the last game and seven from the loss before to the Anaheim Ducks.
Offensively, the Flyers are looking for more reliable scorers outside of right-wing Travis Konecny, who has scored eight goals in nine games. Right-wing Cam Atkinson (five goals) and left-wing Joel Farabee (four goals) are the scorers who are starting to find a rhythm in scoring.
The Sabres' defense allows an average of 3.00 goals per game. They've had tough performances keeping opponents from scoring, but they have momentum after the critical shutout win over the Avalanche. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (91.5% saves) is projected to start for the Sabres. Buffalo will need to do a better job at suppressing shot attempts from opposing offenses. The Sabres have allowed 273 shot attempts for an average of 30.3 goals per game.

The Dallas Stars (5-1-1) are hot at the start of this season, while the Calgary Flames (2-6-1) are not hot, with one of the worst records in the league. This Wednesday, the Stars will go on the road to take on the Flames.
The Stars are coming into this game as surprisingly small favorites to the Flames. This makes the bet for the Stars to beat the Flames a solid opportunity to make some significant earnings.
The Stars didn't get their first loss in the regular period until their sixth game of the season at home to the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1. Dallas is coming off a 5-3 home win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Dallas' Jake Oettinger (94% on saves) is one of the top goalies in the NHL. He is fourth in the league in overall save percentages. The Stars are fifth in the league in goals allowed per game (2.43) thanks to the stellar play of their goalies and defenders.
The Stars average 3.0 goals per game, which doesn't make them a high-caliber offense, but they are highly efficient in breakaway goals and attacking the goalkeeper from far away.
The Flames possess one of the worst defenses in the league, as they allow an average of 3.67 goals per game. They are just as bad on the offensive side of the ice as they average 2.11 goals per game. Only the St. Louis Blues and the San Jose Sharks are worse offensively.

The final of Wednesday's slate is a matchup of Western Conference non-divisional rivals. The Arizona Coyotes (4-4) are set to go on the road to take on the Anaheim Ducks (5-4).
The Coyotes are having a much better start to the season than last. Arizona started the season with a 3-2 record before losing two games to the Los Angeles Kings. They are coming off a huge 8-1 win at home versus the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Ducks started the season winning only one of their first games, including a 2-1 win over the Coyotes. They have rebounded by winning their last four games, including the previously undefeated Boston Bruins. They are coming off a 4-3 win at the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Arizona defeated Anaheim 2-1 in their first season matchup on October 21st. Right-wing Clayton Keller and left-wing Jason Zucker were the players who scored for the Coyotes. Goalie Karel Vejmelka (92.6% on saves) allowed only one goal and on 33 saves in the previous matchup.
The Ducks are going to look for revenge in the rematch on Wednesday.
