The one series that could end on Wednesday night is the matchup between Pacific Divisional opponents in the Los Angeles Kings at the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers have a chance to close out the series and get extra days of rest before the second round of the playoffs.
Edmonton is coming off a thrilling, but tough 1-0 defensive win on Sunday night in Los Angeles. Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner accounted for 33 saves and didn’t allow a single goal from the desperate Kings team. The Kings have only been out twice in the regular season this year.
The Oilers, on the other hand, had a tough time getting their offense rolling as the team only attempted 13 total shots at the goal. Defender Evan Bouchard scored the game’s only goal on a power play off an assist from both Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid.
Edmonton is hoping for a different outcome offensively as they have the offense has been one of the most efficient units in this series. The Oilers averaged 5.7 goals per game in the first three games played in the series before the defensive battle.
Los Angeles had its best chance to even the series at 2-2 with the defensive performance. The series now goes back to Edmonton with the Oilers having the 3-1 series lead. Edmonton is also looking to bounce back from the lackluster offensive performance on Sunday night.
The two games in the series where the Oilers didn’t win by three goals was in the Kings’ 5-4 win in game two and Sunday’s game. This game has the potential to be a blowout for the Oilers based on the offensive reemergence of the Oilers, the home-court advantage and the potentially depleted mentality of the Kings.
