It has not been an easy path for the Columbus Blue Jackets (23-34-11) or the Detroit Red Wings (34-28-6) through the last few weeks. Both Columbus and Detroit have lost winnable games and encountered tough losing streaks.
The Blue Jackets have only won one game in their last five games. The lone win came from a 4-2 win home win over the San Jose Sharks. Detroit was feeling confident in their ability to make a deep run in the playoffs after a six-game winning streak led to an overall record of 33-20-6. Since that winning streak, the Red Wings have lost eight of the last nine games and have become a disaster in March. They went from potentially making a deep playoff run to potentially missing the postseason overall.
The Red Wings have won both of the previous matchups against the Blue Jackets. The Red Wings outscored the Blue Jackets 9-4 in those two games.
Overall, the Blue Jackets are not much of a threat when taken seriously. They are averaging 2.9 goals per game (25th in the league) with their defense being much worse by allowing an average of 3.59 goals per game (30th in the league).
The Red Wings have been among the top teams in the league offensively as they have been averaging 3.38 goals per game (eighth in the league). What has put the Red Wings in tough positions this season is their horrible play on the defensive side of the ice. The Red Wings are ranked 25th in the league in goals allowed per game (3.37). Within their last nine games played, their defense has allowed an average of 4.8 goals per game.
If the Red Wings can’t find their efficiency to shake off their recent horrible play on the ice against one of the worst teams in the league in the Blue Jackets, they do not deserve to lock down the final Eastern Conference Wild Card spot.

One of the top games of a busy night in the NHL is set as the Carolina Hurricanes (42-20-6) go on the road to take on the New York Islanders (29-23-15) in a critical Eastern Conference playoff hunt. The Hurricanes are in second place in a loaded Metropolitan Division, especially after making multiple key trades before the NHL Trade Deadline. The Islanders, on the other hand, have the talent to make a significant run towards the postseason but lack the consistency.
This game tonight will be the fourth and final game of the series between these two teams. The Islanders have won two of the three previous matchups this season. All the games have been decided by one point as the Islanders have outscored the Hurricanes 13-12 in the three games played.
These two teams haven’t faced each other since December 23 when the Islanders won the only game in regulation this season. Carolina is a much more different team on both sides of the ice after making the key trades.
The Hurricanes are coming into this game with the seventh-ranked scoring offense. Their defense is even more impressive as they allow an average of 2.65 goals per game (fourth in the league).
The Islanders, on the other hand, are ranked in the bottom half of the league in offensive and defensive play. New York is ranked 20th in goals per game (3.00) while its defense is allowing an average of 3.25 goals per game (22nd in the league).
The Hurricanes are coming into this game hot and ready for a potential Stanley Cup Finals title. They can continue their journey with a solid win over the Islanders.

The final game of the night is set to be one of the most enjoyable matchups on the ice that features a cross-conference playoff-type atmosphere. The Tampa Bay Lightning (36-25-6) are set to go on the road to take on the Vegas Golden Knights (26-24-7).
This game tonight will be the first time that the Lightning and the Golden Knights will face each other on the ice since the thriller on December 21. The Lighting would win the thriller over the Golden Knights thanks to a four-goal performance in the second period. Lightning center Brayden Point accounted for two goals and one assist while Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault scored two goals.
Tonight’s matchup has the potential to live up the hype again as both teams are looking to solidify their wild card spots and potentially move up in the standings. The Lightning have one of the most explosive offenses in the league thanks to having one of the most explosive players in the league in forward Nikita Kucherov. Tampa Bay is averaging 3.46 goals per game (sixth in the league) while their defense is allowing an average of 3.36 goals per game (24th in the league).
The Golden Knights are not the explosive team they were earlier in the season. They do, however, remain in the top half of the league on the offensive and defensive side of the ice. Vegas is ranked 14th in the league in goals per game (3.16), while their defense is ranked 12th in the league in goals allowed per game (2.96).
This game has the potential to be a high-scoring game as it was the last time these two teams met on the ice. The over of 6.5 goals makes one of the best bets of the night and one that should give bettors a great chance to earn significant winnings.
