Tonight is a great night in the NHL, despite there being only three games played on the ice. There are going to be two games on national television, with one of them being a potentially explosive game. The final game might not have the same playoff-caliber setting as the other two, but it is a game to keep track of. The biggest game of the night will be a highly anticipated matchup between the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche. The Detroit Red Wings (33-22-6) will go on the road to take on the Colorado Avalanche (38-20-5) in a game where both teams could use a win to climb their status in the playoffs.
The only time these two teams met this season was in a 2-1 overtime home win for Detroit on February 22. The big stars for the Avalanche and the Red Wings scored one goal to send the game to overtime. Detroit was able to get the win thanks to a huge shot from forward Patrick Kane with 1:18 left in overtime.
This game has the potential to be a shootout, surprisingly, unlike a few weeks ago. Both Colorado and Detroit are coming into this game with two of the most explosive offenses in the league.
The Avalanche are leading the league in goals per game at 3.65, thanks to their strong roster, especially their top three players. In their last three games, they scored five goals in each game.
The Red Wings are ranked sixth in the league in goals per game (3.51) thanks to an impressive roster of their own. Among Detroit’s best offensive players are young veterans and the late-season addition of Patrick Kane, who could be the final push for a potential Eastern Conference Finals appearance.
For the game to potentially go over 6.5 goals, the defense of the Avalanche and the Red Wings would need to be inefficient. The Avalanche allow an average of 3.06 goals per game (17th in the league), while the Red Wings allow an average of 3.2 goals per game (21st in the league).

The final game of the year might be the only matchup with postseason value, but possessing great sports betting value is the cross-conference matchup between the Anaheim Ducks (22-36-3) and the Ottawa Senators (25-31-3). Ticket prices for this game are not high at all, as neither the Ducks nor the Senators are making any cases for the postseason. What this game does present are some of the best betting odds with game odds and over/under in Wednesday’s slate of games.
The Senators have hit some tough stretches over the past few weeks. They had a great chance to get back over .500% for the first time since November, but collapsed on both sides of the ice. After a 5-3 home win over Toronto and a 6-3 home win over Columbus, the Senators fell to the Ducks with a 5-1 score.
Ottawa has one of the most productive offenses in the league, as they average 3.27 goals per game (13th in the league). The Senators, however, have only averaged 2.25 goals per game in the last four games.
Anaheim is a team that has been hit throughout the season with horrible play on both sides of the ice. After a season with an overall record of 7-4, the Ducks have been inconsistent game-in and game-out. Since that solid start, the Ducks have only accounted for a two-game winning streak four times. Their last winning streak was shed on Sunday with a 2-1 home loss to the Vancouver Canucks.
This game tonight is expected to be a high-scoring game as both the Senators and the Ducks possess two of the worst scoring defenses in the league. Ottawa allows an average of 3.59 goals per game (30th in the league), while Anaheim allows an average of 3.52 goals per game (28th in the league).
The biggest difference-maker in this game could be the Ducks’ inability to score consistently, as they average 2.64 goals per game (29th in the league). This is a game where you can’t go wrong betting on the game line for the Senators to win or the over/under of 6.5 goals. The Senators winning is the safest, but still a solid bet to turn to.
