One of the earliest games of the Thursday slate in the NHL is the All-Canadian matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs (12-6-4) at the Ottawa Senators (10-10). The Maple Leafs have the potential to be a serious contender for the Stanley Cup. The Senators, despite being at the bottom of the Atlantic Division, are a team that remains a thorn in the side of the Eastern Conference.
The Senators defeated the Maple Leafs in the only matchup between the two teams this season on November in Toronto with a 6-3 score. Ottawa had three players account for huge performances. Center Tim Stutzle accounted for one goal and three assists. Forward Dominik Kubalik scored two goals and forward Claude Giroux accounted for two goals and an assist.
The Maple Leafs have won two of their last three games including a tough 2-1 home over the Florida Panthers. They are, however, coming off a 4-3 home loss to the Boston Bruins. The Senators have been battling through a .500% and below record for the entirety of the season. They are on a two-game winning streak, including a great 6-2 home win over the New York Rangers, after previously losing three consecutive games.
Toronto is coming into this game with the stars and the mentality to redeem themselves from the loss to their rivals last month.

The Anaheim Ducks (10-15) and the Chicago Blackhawks (7-16-1) are fighting this early into the season to reclaim consistency and to account for rhythm that could help them make a significant playoff run. Through the first few weeks of the season, both the Ducks and the Blackhawks despite having significant talent, have not accounted for solid wins this season. On Thursday night, both teams will meet on the ice to shed their serious losing streaks.
At one point in the season, the Ducks had accounted for an overall record of 9-6, collecting some solid wins along the way. Since that time, Anaheim has only won one of the last ten games. They shed an eight-game losing streak with a 4-3 shootout upset win over the Colorado Avalanche on December 2nd. The Ducks haven't been great on the offensive side of the ice, but their defense has allowed huge scoring runs during this serious losing streak.
The Blackhawks were one of the worst teams last season as they lacked leadership and talent. Chicago now has star center rookie Connor Bedard but is still having trouble with consistency on both sides of the ice. Chicago has won two of the last seven games and is currently on a four-game losing streak. The Blackhawks had only scored six goals and regular time in their last four games while allowing an average of four goals per game.
Both of these teams are not looking to get better as the season progresses, but Anaheim has been more reliable on offense than Chicago in the last few games. Even with the home-court advantage, the Blackhawks cannot be trusted to play well on offense.

One of the most underrated matchups going into Thursday's slate of NHL games is set for a big-time Eastern Conference versus Western Conference matchup as the Philadelphia Flyers (13-10-2) go on the road to take on the Arizona Coyotes (13-9-2). Both the Flyers and the Coyotes come into this game with significant winning streaks, but the Coyotes are on fire for numerous reasons.
Arizona went into its November 25th matchup at Versus the Vegas Golden Knights with an overall record of 8-9-2. The Coyotes were able to shock the Golden Knights with a 2-0 road win. Arizona went on to defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Colorado Avalanche, the St. Louis Blues, and the Washington Capitals. The Coyotes have outscored their last five opponents with a 19-5 score. Not only is the streak relevant in their record, but the Coyotes have defeated the last five teams to be crowned Stanley Cup champions in one run.
The Flyers have been a tenacious team this season on both sides of the ice. They have had tough games within the last five matchups as four of their games went into overtime and shootouts. Philadelphia has won three of the last five games and has won three of the four games that went into overtime and shootouts. They are coming off a two-game win streak, both over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Arizona is coming off a huge scoring run as they have risen in offensive efficiency over the past five games. The Coyotes are averaging 3.3 three goals per game, 12th in the league. They are also said to have a significant advantage with their home court against a dangerous Flyers team.
