Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Houston Texans | +1.5 (-110) | +110 | Over 42.5 points (-105) |
New York Jets | -1.5 (-110) | -130 | Under 42.5 points (-115) |
The Texans are second place in the AFC standings at 6-2 and with wins in four of their last five games. The only loss during that stretch came in a 24-22 battle on the road against the Green Bay Packers, during which they almost won despite C.J. Stroud throwing for just 86 yards.
Houston averages more time of possession than any team in the league. They lost their main source of explosiveness when Nico Collins went out of the lineup with a hamstring injury, but Stroud is still playing at a high level, while Joe Mixon ran for at least 100 yards in four of his five games thus far.
The Texans' D also allows opposing QBs to complete the lowest percentage of passes of any team in the league and is eighth in EPA per play.
On the flip side, the Jets lost five straight games and are running out of excuses. They fired their head coach, changed offensive play-callers, traded for Davante Adams, signed Haason Reddick, and ceded seemingly all of the organizational power to Aaron Rodgers, all to end up in last place in the AFC East.
The Jets' offense is highly inefficient, ranking 25th in points per game (18.8) and 28th in yards per point. They also lost their defensive strength as soon as they fired Robert Saleh, allowing an average of 28.3 points in the three following games.
Playing at home on a short week should level the playing field against a team that is clearly better than them. The question is if they’ll finally show up or just continue to disappoint.
The Texans are a much better team, but they’re injured. Tank Dell is going to need to have a big game outside the numbers for Stroud to perform at a high level against this Jets' defense.
That said, Mixon has proven his ability to carry the football. Rodgers and the Jets' offense routinely waste chances, and the defense has been on a downward slide for a month.

The Texans allowed opposing QBs to complete just 53.06 percent of their passes, while Rodgers' 61.6 completion percentage this season is the worst of his career. Houston also holds opponents to 164.3 passing yards per game, the third-fewest of any team, and this Jets offense hasn’t looked to be on the same page at any point in the season.

The second-year wideout from the University of Houston has not lit the world on fire, going over this line just once and only catching four passes for 35 yards last week. However, he did catch a touchdown last Sunday, which should put him in the good graces of Stroud and the Texans' offensive staff. He also had several explosive outings last year and will need to produce without Diggs or Collins on the field.

The Texans and Stroud should be prepared to stuff the ball in the belly of Mixon, who carried the rock 25 times in consecutive weeks and went over this line in three of five games. The Jets have a great pass defense but are 17th in rushing yards allowed per game (125.8) which, combined with the Texans' clock dominance, provides a path for Mixon to hit the over.
