The Miami Dolphins are headed out to New England for an intense divisional matchup on Sunday night. Miami started their season with a shootout victory over the Chargers and will look to keep the momentum going for the second straight week.
The Dolphins are loaded with talent on each side of the ball and as long as Tua Tagovailoa can stay healthy, the Dolphins are a force to be reckoned with in the NFL.
The Patriots have struggled in the past with Mac Jones as their quarterback. While last week wasn’t a terrible game, Jones continued to show that he is not the quarterback of the future.
Bill Belichick has tried to support Jones, but we believe time is ticking on Jones’ quarterback tenure. Let’s break down this division matchup and review our favorite props.
Tua Tagovailoa started the season with an impressive win. Tagovailoa got off to a hot start, throwing for 270 yards just in the first half. The former Alabama quarterback threw for 466 yards and three passing touchdowns.
Tagovailoa is surrounded by outstanding talent. With wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, it’s really hard to believe he will struggle padding the stats.
Last season, Tagovailoa ran into many concussion issues, with three unofficially, but every time he was on the field, this team produced incredible offensive numbers.
This team plays very fast and efficient football. On throws over 10 yards, Tagovailoa completed 80% of the passes.
Forty-year-old head coach Mike McDaniel has put together a high-powered offense that can hang with any team in the NFL. Last season, Miami finished sixth in the league in passing yards.
We fully expect Miami to fire early, throwing the ball down the field and putting points on the board against a struggling New England team.
Jones has a tendency to get spooked at the slightest pressure and check down to close receivers. This is frequently Rhamondre Stevenson. In week one Stevenson led the team in receiving with six catches on six targets for 64 yards.
Stevenson didn’t look great as a ball carrier, but was a great safety valve for Jones. This New England offensive line is worse than it has been in years, making Stevenson’s over a really valuable play at 21.5 yards.
Last season, New England finished 25th in the league in yards per game and 20th in the league in passing yards. Anytime Jones has the ball in the pocket, Patriots fans close their eyes because it’s usually not a great outcome.
While we do trust Stevenson to produce on the ground, this is another game in which he will be targeted. With Christian Wilkins and Bradley Chubb making Jones question every snap, Stevenson should be there to bail him out of any trouble.
DraftKings offers a “Touchdown Props” section that includes odds on which team will score the longest touchdown. It’s a no-brainer at -120 that the Dolphins will score the longest touchdown because of their explosive style.
In 2022, when Tagovailoa was healthy, Miami had the second most passing yards in the NFL. They also have the fastest player in the league in Tyreek Hill, to make this bet even juicier.
We expect Tagovailoa to air the ball out and put this New England Defense in shambles. Hill essentially outmatches every defender with his speed down the field.
Last Week, Hill had 11 catches on 15 targets for 215 yards and two touchdowns. When Tagovailoa gets the ball to Hill, expect a long touchdown, likely the longest score of the night.
