Steelers vs. Raiders Predictions

This game will likely be one of the hardest watches of the weekend. On one side is an elite defensive team in the Steelers, and on the other is a Raiders team struggling to keep their season alive. 

The Steelers enter as the favorite, and rightfully so. They have lost their last two games, but that will change tonight. Pittsburgh's problem is generating enough offense to support its fantastic defense. While Justin Fields has been dangerous, the team ranks in the bottom ten of the league in both yards and points allowed per game. That could lead to Russell Wilson taking the job over as soon as this week.

We are willing to give up the points despite knowing which quarterback will be behind center for the Steelers for a couple of reasons. The first is the state of the Raiders offense, which also has a quarterback controversy on their hands. Gardner Minshew has not given the unit the spark they hoped for, leading to Aidan O’Connell seeing some snaps. If the Raiders want to win, they’ll need to work through the air, but poor play at the position will make that difficult. 

The other reason we are giving up the points is the Vegas backfield, which averages the third-fewest rushing yards per game. Zamir White has been awful and is now injured, leaving Alexander Mattison and Ameer Abdullah to take over. Neither is a starting-quality running back, which will be a problem against a top-five run defense on Sunday.

Maxx Crosby is always an X-factor for the Raiders’ defense, but he hasn’t been able to cover the unit’s many holes.

Pittsburgh is the better team, especially with Davante Adams expected to miss the game amid a trade demand. His attempt to leave and the controversy at quarterback make the Raiders an unstable team, and it will cost them dearly on Sunday.

Justin Fields to Score TD (+170) at Caesars Sportsbook

The Raiders have struggled to stop the run this season, which is bad news as they face a dangerous rusher in Justin Fields. The quarterback has had three rushing touchdowns over the last three games. While the Cowboys kept him out of the end zone in Week 5, the Raiders don’t have the same talent to replicate the effort.

Obviously, this bet assumes that Fields will start on Sunday. If he does, he will now have even more motivation to make plays with Wilson healthy. His leash may be short if he can’t get the offense going, but he will be able to do that against a bad Raiders defense.

Harris isn’t the most explosive runner, and his stats reflect that. However, he is going to get a ton of carries on Sunday. He has been the lead back all season, but Cordarrelle Patterson has cut into his carry totals over the last couple of games. The former Falcons star will be out this week, meaning Harris will likely see 17+ carries. 

Given the state of the Raiders’ run defense, we expect Harris to use those carries to surpass this far-too-low total easily.

Don’t overthink this one, as it may be the lock of the entire weekend. The Raiders will be seeing this stellar defense for the first time, and it will take time to adjust. While the game's opening drive is scripted, we don’t think the team has the weapons to execute much against the Steelers to make it matter.

In addition, the team will likely be without lead back Zamir White and top playmaker Davante Adams. No matter which quarterback the Raiders start, they won’t be able to do much in their opening drive.
