The Giants have scored 10 total points over their last two games and have scored more than 21 points just once this season.
Pittsburgh is coming off back-to-back games with over 30 points despite making a change at quarterback last week.
In all five of their wins, the Steelers have held their opponent to 15 points or less.
Week 8 of the NFL season concludes when the New York Giants visit the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night. This is the first meeting between the teams since 2020, although it’s a rivalry that dates back to 1933. This meeting finds the teams moving in opposite directions, as the Giants are languishing at 2-5 while the Steelers look like a playoff contender at 5-2. Needless to say, this is a game the Giants need whereas the Steelers will feel this is a game they should win.
Given the state of both teams, the Steelers are clear favorites in this game. Yet, the spread is less than a touchdown, so this could end up being a close game. Here are the current betting odds for Monday’s Steelers-Giants game from bet365 Sportsbook where new users can pick a bonus of their choice: $1,000 Safety Net Bet OR $200 in Bonus Bets.
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Over/Under |
---|---|---|---|
New York Giants | +6 (-110) | +220 | Over 36.5 (-110) |
Pittsburgh Steelers | -6 (-110) | -270 | Under 36.5 (-110) |
After enduring back-to-back losses, the Steelers have responded with a couple of convincing wins. Granted, the teams they beat were the Raiders and Jets, but neither game was close. In fact, all five of Pittsburgh’s wins this year have come by at least a touchdown, including three wins by double digits. Meanwhile, the Giants have lost back-to-back games. Earlier in the season, the G-Men were at least staying competitive in their losses. However, they were outscored 45-10 in those two games, both of which were at home. On the road against a quality opponent, the Giants don’t have much hope of keeping this game close if they continue to play the way they have in recent weeks.

With just 10 total points over their last two games, the New York offense has completely disappeared. To be fair, the Giants have only scored more than 21 points once in seven games this season. They have the third-fewest points in the NFL and there are few reasons to feel confident that Daniel Jones can get things turned around, even with the emergence of rookies Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy as new weapons for the Giants.
There certainly isn’t any reason to think the Giants can suddenly get going against the Pittsburgh defense. The Steelers have the second-best defense in the NFL and the front-runner for NFL Defensive Player of the Year in T.J. Watt. Only one team has scored more than 20 points against Pittsburgh in seven games while the Steelers have held teams to 15 points or less in all five of their wins.
Meanwhile, Mike Tomlin made a risky move last week, benching Justin Fields in favor of Russell Wilson despite the team’s 4-2 start. Wilson scuffled in the first half but turned things around and led the Steelers to 24 points in the second half against the Jets, including three drives of 75 yards or longer. While the Steelers aren’t loaded with playmakers, George Pickens and Najee Harris do give Wilson a decent supporting cast.
On the other side, the Giants have been tough defensively for much of the season. They’ve held five of their seven opponents to 21 points or less, although that’s not always been enough to win games. The Giants had a world of trouble stopping the run in last week’s 28-3 loss to the Eagles. One has to wonder how much longer the New York defense can hang in there without more support from the offense.
Wilson ended up with 264 passing yards in last week’s win over the Jets. But that’s not necessarily going to be a common occurrence. The Steelers are going to lean on their running game as much as possible, which could limit Wilson’s productivity. Plus, other than George Pickens, he doesn’t have many big-play options around him. The hope for Pittsburgh is that Wilson won’t need to throw the ball a lot in what should be a low-scoring game that they control, keeping Wilson below 200 passing yards.

With Pittsburgh emphasizing the running game, Harris is poised for another big day. He’s picked it up in recent weeks, rushing for over 100 yards in back-to-back games. There is no reason for the Steelers to change course this week, so they’ll keep giving him the ball. Keep in mind the Giants are yielding 5.4 yards per carry with regard to defending the run. That’s tied for last in the NFL. As long as Harris gets enough carries, he should have no problem getting over 62.5 yards.

With Jones facing one of the NFL’s best defenses, it’s almost a given that he’ll end up throwing an interception in this game. For what it’s worth, he’s only thrown four picks this year, and two of those came in Week 1, so turning the ball over hasn’t been his biggest issue. However, the Pittsburgh defense has nine interceptions in seven games this season, including five in the last three games. The Steelers are poised to get some takeaways in this game, especially if the Giants are playing from behind and forced to throw the ball. If things play out like that, it’d be surprising if Jones didn’t throw an interception.
