Zach Frazier and Nate Herbig continue to compete for the starting Steelers center job.
Russell Wilson will make his preseason debut and play four series.
The Bills player to watch for is cornerback Kaiir Elam.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 of the NFL preseason. Both teams are coming off tough Week 1 losses, with the Bills losing to the Chicago Bears 33-6 and the Steelers losing 20-12 to the Houston Texans.

While preseason wins and losses don’t matter, you still want to see some type of progression from certain players throughout.
The Steelers drafted a few offensive linemen, and centers Zach Frazier, and Nate Herbig are competing for the starting job. Frazier had 22 pass-blocking snaps and didn’t allow a single pressure. Herbig played just five snaps but had two botched snaps. Herbig needs to bounce back in a big way to have a shot at being the starter over Frazier.
Additionally, quarterback Russell Wilson will make his debut and play four series with the starters. In Week 1, Justin Fields completed six of six passes before Kyle Allen took over. Following Wilson’s four series, I suspect Fields will get some playing time, followed by Allen and perhaps even some John Rhys Plumlee.
As for the Bills, they have their quarterback with Josh Allen, so there’s no need to really get him extended playing time. We’ll see Mitch Trubisky and more of Shane Buechele. Buechele threw an interception in Week 1.
The player I’m most looking forward to seeing is cornerback Kaiir Elam and how he holds up against the Steelers receivers. In Week 1, he played 15 snaps in coverage, had two tackles, and allowed one catch on two targets for five yards.
The Steelers have a lot more at stake in this game and will have better players on the field longer. Trubisky and Buchele couldn’t move the ball well against Chicago in Week 1, going for 200 yards of offense and averaging 3.1 yards per play.
Expect another Bills loss.
Below are three props for this preseason Week 2 showdown, all from bet365 Sportsbook.
As mentioned, Allen will likely not play much at all, leaving this up to Trubisky and Buechele. The Steelers will play Wilson for four series with the offensive starters, so if the defense also plays some starters for even a series or two, I don’t anticipate a lot of success from either of those quarterbacks under those conditions.
The only way this goes over is from three field goals and I’m not sure we’ll see enough movement on offense from the Bills to make that happen.

The Bills scored just six points in Week 1, and it’s hard to imagine a much better performance with Trubisky and Buechele at the helm. The Steelers have plenty of talent on defense, even on the second team with linebacker Payton Wilson, defensive tackle DeMarvin Leal, and more.
I don’t have much faith in any quarterback not named Allen on this team. On top of that, the ground game was dreadful. The only chance at any offense appears to be if Buechele can get something going during his playing time. He had three carries for 22 yards, which led the team in Week 1.

While Wilson will play four series and Fields will get some more run, three touchdowns in that amount of time feels like a tall task. Wilson is coming off a calf injury, so his first couple of series could be more of just getting his feet wet by taking live snaps from the center and getting in rhythm. While some see this as a quarterback competition, it feels like the Steelers will go with Wilson, but they want Fields to get some first-team reps.
I don’t expect much from Wilson and Fields here. Four series could be about half or three-quarters of a quarter, and Fields could potentially play a similar amount of time. Again, I expect Allen and Plumlee for the entire second half. Allen completed 17 of 23 passes for 193 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Plumlee, an Ole Miss and UCF alum, has messed with wide receiver a bit at practice, but he’s a fantastic athlete, rushing for 1,367 yards on 265 carries for UCF over the past two seasons. He’d be a potential spark on offense, but it remains to be seen how he’ll be used.
The Steelers will win this game, but surpassing the three-touchdown mark is too much, given the quality of quarterback play behind Wilson and Fields.
