Sunday Night Football Week 8 Picks: Niners to Continue Dominance Over America’s Team?

  • The 49ers won their last three matchups with the Cowboys, including a 42-10 win last year

  • Micah Parsons is questionable, while DeMarcus Lawrence is on IR

  • Brock Purdy and Dak Prescott combined for no touchdowns and five interceptions last week

The Dallas Cowboys are heading to the West Coast to take on the team that’s dominated them throughout recent years, the San Francisco 49ers.

While it’s been tough sledding for Dallas, they got to spend last week on a bye resting and preparing for the potential season-defining matchup. Meanwhile, the Niners are only 3-4 and just lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 28-18 at home last week as their offense continues to disappoint in key spots.

The Niners entered the year as one of the leaders in Super Bowl futures odds, but they’re sliding. They can determine what the narrative of their team is at the start of next week depending on the result of Sunday Night Football.

With that context in place, here are a few of our favorite player props and betting picks for the 49ers vs. Cowboys clash on SNF.

Best NFL SNF Picks Week 8

Brock Purdy Over 241.5 Passing Yards (-117) at Caesars Sportsbook

Purdy had a forgettable afternoon in his last game against the Kansas City Chiefs as he went 17/31 for 212 yards and three interceptions in a 28-18 loss. But even with that, he’s sixth in the league (amongst qualified players) in yards per game with 265.6 and third in yards per attempt at 8.5.

The Niners routinely have trouble with the Chiefs, who have one of the best defenses in the NFL. Brandon Aiyuk is gone but hadn’t made an overwhelmingly positive impact on the offense anyway, while the Cowboys are 19th in passing yards allowed per game and gave up 308 to Jared Goff the last time they were on the field.

Dak Prescott Under 246.5 Passing Yards (-117) at Caesars Sportsbook

The vibes are low in Dallas. Seriously, they are low. Rather than enjoy their off week, players blamed their downswing in performances on the team offering tours of the facility, while Jerry Jones attacked the coaching and offensive schematics used by Mike McCarthy and company.

Dak split the over/under at three apiece and went just 17/3 for 178 yards and two interceptions against the Lions last weekend. Dallas has very little in the way of receiving options not named CeeDee Lamb, and the Niners just held Patrick Mahomes to 145 yards.

George Kittle Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+127) at Caesars Sportsbook

Without Aiyuk in the lineup and with Deebo Samuel coming off of injuries and sickness, Kittle should be a preferred target on Sunday, particularly in the red zone. He had scored in four straight games until last weekend against the Chiefs, though he still caught six passes for 92 yards.

The Cowboys recently figured out how to stop the run, but their pass defense has been shoddy. Kittle is a tough matchup for any defense in the league and should get an increased amount of looks given the personnel changes around him.

Jordan Mason Under 80.5 Rushing Yards (-117) at Caesars Sportsbook

The Cowboys started the year with one of the worst run defenses in the league. However, they allowed 100.7 rushing yards per game over their last three games, the eighth-lowest mark in the league during that time. They also got to rest during the bye week which, off-field controversy aside, is good for the brutes up front.

Mason was a limited participant at practice this week with a shoulder injury. He received a total of 23 carries over the last two weeks after he averaged 21 per game during the first five weeks, unsurprisingly causing him to go under this line two weeks running.
