Sunday Night Football Prop Bets: Will CJ Stroud Outperform Jared Goff?

  • The Lions are the favorite to win the NFC

  • CJ Stroud and Jared Goff have been two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL

  • Jahmyr Gibbs is top 10 in rushing yards and touchdowns

The Detroit Lions will travel to Houston to face the Texans. A field goal favors the Lions, so bookmakers anticipate this game will be very close.

We would be willing to lay the points with Detroit, but this game is perfect for prop betting. The Lions and Texans have tons of stars who should perform in prime time.

We’re looking at Jared Goff to continue his efficiency through the air. We also believe CJ Stroud and Amon-Ra St. Brown will perform on Sunday night.

Jared Goff Over 219.5 Passing Yards (-114) at bet365

Jared Goff is one of the MVP frontrunners and has been fantastic for most of the season. The quarterback wasn’t great earlier in the year, but he has responded with a vengeance to a point where he potentially could win MVP.

Goff hasn’t thrown for a ton of yards, which is apparent from his passing yards line for Sunday Night Football. It’s set at just 219.5, which is very low for a quarterback of Goff’s caliber.

Yet, Goff has been efficient through the air, which has allowed him to rack up more yards. Goff has thrown for 1,840 yards this season, just 17th in the NFL.

He is ninth in passing touchdowns with 14, and while we expect him to find scores through the air, we would instead go over on his yardage prop.

The Texans have an elite secondary, but Detroit’s weapons are a lot for any team to handle. Between Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery in the backfield and Amon-Ra St. Brown streaking down the field, the Lions are built to rack up passing yards.

Goff has gone over this line in three of his past five games. If the Texans can succeed through the air and score points, it will put more pressure on Detroit to air out the ball, resulting in Goff surpassing 219.5 passing yards.

Amon-Ra St. Brown Over 65.5 Receiving Yards (-110) at bet365

The Lions are currently picked to be the NFC Champions, and a significant reason for this is St. Brown at receiver. He has been one of the best downfield threats in the NFL, and we expect the trend to continue against the Texans.

Houston has limited explosive gains, but we believe he can still go over the line with his yards after the catch ability. The Lions usually have St. Brown run crossers with Gibbs, which allows each player to run after making a catch.

If St. Brown can make a few explosive catches, he should surpass this number, which is substantially lower than we have seen this season.

Goff only threw for 145 yards last week against the Packers, but St. Brown accounted for 56. He is Goff’s favorite target, which should show against the Texans.

If the Lions are playing from behind, which is very possible in this contest, look for Ben Johnson to call many plays involving the Pro Bowl wide receiver.

CJ Stroud Over 230.5 Passing Yards (-110) at bet365

CJ Stroud has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this season. The Texans are throwing the ball downfield, clear by his 2,139 passing yards.

He is sixth in the NFL in this category, and we anticipate Houston trying to win through the air on Sunday. Stroud’s passing line is 230.5, and he has hit the over in three of his past five games.

Detroit has won with offense this season, but there are plenty of holes on the defensive side of the ball. Without Aidan Hutchinson generating a pass rush, Stroud should have extra time to dissect Detroit in the pocket.

Considering he can throw for 300 yards any week, 230.5 is a steal on Sunday Night Football.
