The Lions are second in Super Bowl odds, while the Texans are ninth
C.J. Stroud only completed 36.7 percent of his passes last week
The Lions lead the NFL in scoring at 32.3 points per game
The Houston Texans will host the Detroit Lions in a matchup between two of the best teams in the league that are trying to break through and become bonafide Super Bowl contenders.
The Lions were active at the trade deadline, acquiring Za’Darius Smith, while the Texans are still reeling from injuries to Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs. This is one of the most interesting games of the week, which is why we tried our hand at making picks against the spread and finding the best SNF player props.

Stroud had a terrible time in his last game against the New York Jets, going 11/30 for no touchdowns and no interceptions. However, he still managed to find his way to 191 passing yards (17.4 yards per completion), showing that he can still be explosive even without Collins and Diggs.
Assuming Stroud doesn’t set another career-low for completion percentage, he should have a solid chance to beat this line. The Lions have a great defense, but Stroud had 10 days to prepare, and will also likely need to throw the ball a ton to help his team keep pace with Detroit’s high-octane offense.

The electrifying second-year back from Alabama went under this line in back-to-back and three of his last five games. He’s more than capable of using his speed to turn regular check-downs into big gains, but he hasn't done that regularly as of late.
The Texans gave up the second-fewest receiving yards to opposing running backs (191, 21.2 per game). Detroit will also have a great chance to lean into its running game knowing that the Texans are injured on offense and might not want to go blow-for-blow with them through the air.

Simply put, somebody is going to need to score the points for the Texans. Joe Mixon is a solid bet, but if Stroud is going to throw the ball as many times as we anticipate, a receiver is going to need to get into the end zone.
Dell caught six passes for 126 yards against the Jets and scored in two of the three weeks before that. He’s the obvious number-one option with Collins and Diggs out and should get plenty of opportunities from his star quarterback.

Montgomery is a touchdown machine for the Lions. He scored 20 touchdowns in 22 games spread across two seasons with the Lions, including seven in eight games this season.
The bruising back only scored once in his last three games but still got 17 carries last week and is usually in the game near the goal line. Detroit has the best offensive line in the league and gives him a great chance to score anytime the ball gets inside the 20-yard line.
