Week 13 of the 2023 NFL Season kicks off with a huge matchup that could determine playoff seedings in the NFC. The Seattle Seahawks (6-5) go on the road to take on the Dallas Cowboys (8-3) in a game where both teams are looking to make serious runs in the NFC playoffs and a potential Super Bowl title as a dark horse candidate.
The Seahawks showed serious potential after a 30-13 loss in week one to the Los Angeles Rams by winning five of the next six games of the season. One of the wins included a 37-31 overtime victory on the road versus the Detroit Lions. Within the past few weeks, however, Seattle has been hindered on the offensive side of the ball with injuries, inconsistencies with play calls, and poor game management. The Seahawks have lost three of the last four games played. They are coming off a 31-13 devastating home loss on Thanksgiving to the San Francisco 49ers.
The Dallas Cowboys started the season with two dominant wins at the New York Giants and over the New York Jets. After the win versus the Jets, their defense fell apart as they lost cornerback Treyvon Diggs to a season-ending injury. After a 3-2 start to the season, Dallas would defeat both Los Angeles teams before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles and a close game on the road in prime time. Despite the loss, the offense played highly efficient ball and remained to play efficient in their last three games. Dallas has outscored their last three opponents 127-47.

Last season, the offense of the Seattle Seahawks was one of the most efficient units in the league. The combination of youth and star talent caused them to surpass all expectations. This season, injuries and poor playcalling from offensive coordinator Shane Waldron have caused the offense to fall apart. The injuries to the offensive line have caused the running game to stall and quarterback Geno Smith has regressed as a result of the instability of the offense. The Seahawks rank 18th in the league in points per game (20.8) and 21st in total yards per game (317.6).
Through the first two games of the season, the defense of the Dallas Cowboys was elite. After the injury to star cornerback Treyvon Diggs, the Cowboys became more vulnerable in defending against press coverage. Dallas was able to adjust well and show its efficiency throughout the field. The Cowboys are ranked fourth in the league in points allowed per game (16.8), second in passing yards allowed per game (167.2), and third in total yards allowed per game (276.3). Outside linebacker Micah Parsons has accounted for 11.5 sacks and 23 quarterback hits. Cornerback DaRon Bland has accounted for seven interceptions with five returned for touchdowns.
The Cowboys are just as efficient as the offensive side of the ball this year, if not better than last year. Quarterback Dak Prescott has been incredibly efficient and productive in the passing game. It helps to have three high-caliber wide receivers, including a potential All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb. The Cowboys possess the top-ranked scoring offense (31.5 points per game), the fourth-ranked passing offense (262.4 passing yards per game), and the fifth-ranked total offense (377.6 total yards per game). While there are concerns such as the age of the offensive line and the limited rushing game, the Cowboys have still shown their ability to play at an elite level.
Defensively, the Seahawks have seen the potential of their young players and they have been the bright spot of the second half of the season. They are more often than not put into bad situations due to poor special teams or offensive mistakes. There have been signs that players like second-year cornerback Tariq Woolen, a pro bowler last season, regressed. There are moments where the defense looks great, but other times when it falls apart. Seattle is ranked 22nd in points allowed per game (22.6), 22nd in passing yards allowed per game (230.7), 21st in rushing yards allowed per game (117.7), and 23rd in total yards allowed per game (348.5).
The Seahawks haven’t given many wide receivers the chance to account for a huge set of performances this season. Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has been one of the most productive pass-catchers before the last two weeks of the season. In Weeks six through ten, Lamb has accounted for 150 or more receiving yards. If the Cowboys passing offense gets going, Lamb will be the top target.

Micah Parsons has been one of the most explosive pass rushers in the NFL this season. There have been several points where Parsons’ presence was enough to make the opposing offense panic. The offensive line of the Seahawks has been inconsistent with injuries. It is not clear if second-year offensive tackles Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas are 100%, that could be a continuing problem for Seattle’s offense.

In 11 games this season, Seahawks kicker Jason Myers has made 25 field goals. He has made two or more field goals in five of the last seven games for Seattle. Myers has been the go-to scorer when the offense has struggled within the past few weeks.
