  • Browns expected to give a majority of their starters some playing time against the Seahawks

  • Deshaun Watson is questionable to suit up for the final preseason game

  • Tyler Huntley and Dorian Thompson-Robinson are in a duel for the last QB spot

With one preseason game left, both the Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns fringe depth players are given one last opportunity to build their case to make the roster. That shines the spotlight on the Browns in this contest as both Tyler Huntley and Dorian Thompson-Robinson look to battle it out for the last quarterback spot. With desperation on their side, as well as consistent play from the Seahawks, expect a high-scoring affair in what will be an exciting conclusion to the NFL preseason.

Seahawks vs. Browns My Pick

With or without Deshaun Watson, the Cleveland Browns offense will play with a higher sense of urgency as both Tyler Huntley and Dorian Thompson-Robinson flex their dual-threat abilities in a last-ditch effort to make the roster. On the other side of the field, the Seahawks offense will look to match the Browns scoring pace off of the arm of Sam Howell who may very well be the best quarterback of the bunch making an appearance in this contest. Factor in the possibility of starters getting a few reps in, and we may see an abundance of points from the opening kickoff.

Seahawks vs. Browns Predictions

Seattle Seahawks

While the Browns have been vocal about their starters getting a few reps in, the Seahawks have remained quiet on their intentions for their last preseason game. With no updates as of writing, it’s safe to assume that we will see a familiar cast of players all looking to cement their spot on the roster while Sam Howell and PJ Walker split quarterback duties in each half.

Sam Howell brings a more stable presence under center, flashing a powerful arm and a sneaky dual-threat ability when under pressure. His arm talent once had him labeled as a future first overall pick before he stumbled down the draft board after a turbulent final season with the Tar Heels. Since getting drafted, Howell has dazzled at times with his pinpoint accuracy and arm strength. Both traits were on display last week as he finished the contest with 153 passing yards, one touchdown, and 136 QB Rating.

While the quality of their pass attack may take a dip when PJ Walker takes the field, we can expect Walker to utilize his legs successfully as a productive dual-threat quarterback. A quarterback being able to scramble away from pressure and turning it into gains is highly coveted when wagering on the preseason as we need every bit of production we can get when dealing with fringe roster players. Expect Walker to consistently burn the Browns' backups, sustaining drives down the field for scoring opportunities.

Cleveland Browns

Since announcing that a couple of their starters will see a few drives, the total has steamed up in some sportsbooks. Especially if they get the fortunate opportunity of playing against the Seahawks' backups, giving them a great chance of putting points up on the board early before their backups take the field.

Every bit of production will be needed from their starters as both Tyler Huntley and Dorian Thompson-Robinson have struggled to create separation from each other for the last quarterback spot. Neither quarterback managed to find the endzone in their last contest against the Minnesota Vikings while both of them combined for three interceptions. Thompson-Robinson had the more successful outing in terms of QB Rating, yet still needs to outplay his teammate one more time to potentially secure a spot.

Both quarterbacks bring a dual-threat ability that is valuable in the preseason as the lack of defensive talent struggles to contain them. With desperation on their side, expect Huntley and Thompson-Robinson to be more aggressive in their efforts of sustaining their drives down the field and opting to scramble away from pressure at a higher rate. Not only will they have the chance to gain ground and inch toward scoring position, but this also limits the variance that comes from their sporadic passing abilities.
